Dropping off: Drew Robinson (39th), Trevor Plouffe (45th)
- Jung Ho Kang opened his rehab assignment on Friday, putting him on pace to join the Pirates in a couple of weeks. His last stint in organized baseball saw him hit .143/.219/.202 in 84 at-bats in the Dominican Winter League half a year ago, so it’s hard to say whether he’s still the same player who was so effective in 2016. His performance in the minors will determine whether he’s worth picking up in mixed leagues before he’s activated.
- Scooter Gennett’s player-of-the-month turn in May did nothing good for Nick Senzel’s timetable, and Senzel could do little but sit and watch as he missed more than three weeks with vertigo. Since returning, Senzel has started three games at second and two at third for Triple-A Louisville. There’s still a decent chance that the Reds will trade Gennett to make room for Senzel next month. However, the scenario of Senzel simply overtaking Gennett at second base no longer seems realistic.
