Sung-Mun Song gets the nod at the keystone with red-hot Samad Taylor in right field for Sunday afternoon’s showdown at Globe Life Field. It’s the first day off for Tatis since May 3. The 27-year-old fantasy standout has experienced a tumultuous season at the dish, putting it mildly, but he’s shown some real signs of life recently, hitting .329 (24-for-73) with one homer and four steals in 17 games since the start of June.

Fernando Tatis Jr. had a three-run homer and a double to power the Padres past the Astros 7-2 on Sunday Night Baseball.

After grounding out in his first at-bat, Tatis only barely missed in his second, hitting a 359-foot flyout. After that came the 421-foot homer and 386-foot double. He has three homers in five games. Since finally delivering his first homer on May 30, he’s hit .294/.347/.506 with 11 homers in 62 games.

Tatis has two homers and two doubles in his last four games. He now has 10 homers in 60 games after going without one in his first 55.

Ty France is not in the Padres’ starting lineup for Friday night’s series opener against the Astros.

It appears to be nothing more than a routine breather for the 32-year-old first baseman. Jake Cronenworth will slide over and cover first base on Friday night while Sung-Mun Song will start at second base and bat ninth against Astros’ right-hander Ronel Blanco.

Fernando Tatis Jr. is not in the Padres’ starting lineup for Sunday’s divisional matchup against the Giants.

It looks to be just a routine day of rest for the 27-year-old superstar. Gavin Sheets will start in his place in right field and bat seventh against Giants’ right-hander Landen Roupp on Sunday afternoon in San Diego.

Fernando Tatis Jr. went 5-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in San Diego’s 8-7 win over the Rockies on Tuesday.

Tatis had come into this game hitless over his last three games. He made up for it against the Rockies, collecting hits in all five of his plate appearances while driving in two runs and crossing home once. The 27-year-old star is slashing .285/.353/.400 with eight homers, 54 runs scored, 49 RBI, and 25 steals across 469 plate appearances.

Xander Bogaerts is not in the Padres’ starting lineup for Sunday’s showdown against the Marlins in Miami.

The 33-year-old infielder is mired in an extended slump at the plate, so giving him a day or two off to clear his head wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world. Sung-Mun Song will start in his place at shortstop and will bat ninth for the Padres against Janson Junk and the Marlins on Sunday afternoon.

Tonight’s checked in at 474 feet off JR Ritchie. Tatis has three homers in four games and is now up to eight for the year after going his first 55 games without one. He finished tonight with a .752 OPS, his highest mark after any game this season.

Fernando Tatis Jr. went 2-for-5 with a homer, four RBI and a steal against the Royals on Sunday.

Tatis’s homer was hit 107.6 mph off Matt Strahm in the sixth. He’s gone deep in back-to-back games and is up to seven homers on the year after going his first 55 games without one.

Despite not entering until the eighth inning, Sung-Min Song went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI against the Royals on Sunday.

Three hits in two innings. The last two came off utilityman Tyler Tolbert, who gave up six runs in the ninth. It’s Song’s first three-hit game in MLB. He upped his average from .212 to .239.

Sung-Mun Song went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts against the D-backs on Thursday.

With Jake Cronenworth back and Luis Rengifo up, Song is probably on thin ice at this point. He’s hitting .213/.308/.288 through 91 plate appearances. It seems like he has the bat speed to get around on major league fastballs, but his exit velocity numbers thus far are ugly.

Jameson Taillon was removed from Monday’s start against the Red Sox with forearm discomfort.

Taillon was replaced by Simeon Woods Richardson after throwing just 61 pitches over four shutout innings. He finished with three strikeouts and also issued three walks. He’s in clear jeopardy of missing his next start against the Yankees on Saturday. It would presumably be Woods Richardson taking his spot in Toronto’s rotation. There should be additional clarity on his status in the coming days.

Lawlar kicked off a minor league rehab assignment last week and will get a couple additional contests under his belt before returning to Arizona. The 24-year-old former top prospect has shown some flashes this season, but he’s been plagued by injuries, which have limited him to just 12 games.

The Dodgers could certainly use Smith back since they’re rolling with Ben Rortvedt and Hunter Feduccia as their catching tandem with Dalton Rushing (elbow) on the injured list. The 31-year-old franchise backstop resumed baseball activities in late July and figures to make it back to Los Angeles by the end of August. He’s going to need a minor league rehab assignment given how much time he’s missed.

Halvorsen provides Los Angeles with a fresh arm heading into Monday’s series opener against the Royals after being acquired from the Rockies in a small trade last month. He’s posted eight strikeouts over 6 1/3 scoreless frames at Triple-A Oklahoma City since the deal. The hard-throwing 26-year-old posted a pedestrian 4.31 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 66/38 K/BB ratio across 71 innings for the Rockies over the last three years.
