Josh Bell is not in the Twins’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Rockies.

It’s a well-deserved day of rest for the 33-year-old slugger who has been a staple in the middle of the Twins’ lineup this season. Bell is having a decent year overall, slashing .244/.301/.397 with nine homers and 51 RBI in 322 plate appearances for the Twins. Byron Buxton will get a chance to get off of his feet and serve as the designated hitter on Sunday while Austin Martin draws a start in center field and bats eighth against Ryan Feltner and the Rockies.
How Padres can climb back into NL Wild Card race
Jason Benetti, Jake Peavy and Orel Hershiser examine what's next for the Padres after snapping their eight-game losing streak with a win over the Dodgers on Sunday Night Baseball.

Buxton singled in the first inning and was caught trying to steal second base, which appears to have been where he sustained the injury. Hopefully it’s just a minor issue and the Twins are being cautious here, but with Buxton’s extensive injury history you just can’t rule out the chances of him heading to the injured list. Fantasy managers should have an alternative option in place for next week in the event that the dynamic 32-year-old outfielder is forced to miss some time.
  • MIN Designated Hitter #56
Bell homered in back-to-back innings in the seventh and eighth, though the latter, which was hit 96.4 mph to right-center at Yankee Stadium, likely would have been an out most days. It’s his 13th career mulithomer game, including his second of this year. It’s his fourth game ever with three extra-base hits. The other three all came with the Pirates in a three-month span in 2019, with the last being his only three-homer game. He’s batting .247/.304/.434 through 345 plate appearances this year.
  • MIN Center Fielder #25
Buxton returns to Minnesota’s lineup in center field and hitting second following an extended four-game absence due to a right hip impingement. It’s his first game action since June 28. The 32-year-old has been one of the most impactful all-around fantasy contributors this season, delivering a stellar .268/.323/.573 slash line with 56 runs scored, 25 homers, 43 RBI and seven steals across 329 plate appearances over 73 games. It’s an extremely encouraging development for fantasy managers that he’s managed to avoid a trip to the injured list.
  • MIN Center Fielder #25
It’s his fourth missed game in a row. The holding pattern remains. We’re waiting for real news on the situation. It sounded like Buxton was close to returning after an MRI revealed a hip impingement on Tuesday, but there’s been no real movement. Consider Buxton questionable for the other games against the Yankees this weekend.
  • MIN Center Fielder #25
Buxton winds up sitting out the entire three-game series in Houston due to a right hip impingement. The 32-year-old fantasy star should benefit from Thursday’s off day and figures to be ready for Friday’s series opener against the Yankees. It’ll be Ryan Kreidler handling center field with Josh Bell at DH for the third consecutive game on Wednesday night.
  • MIN Center Fielder #25
Buxton will miss his second straight game and remains day-to-day after an MRI revealed a right hip impingement. It doesn’t appear to be a serious concern, but fantasy managers should be prepared for another absence during Wednesday’s series finale with an off day looming on Thursday. It’ll be Ryan Kreidler patrolling center field with Josh Bell at DH in his absence.
  • MIN Center Fielder #25
Twins manager Derek Shelton told reporters that Buxton underwent an MRI after sitting out Monday’s series opener against the Astros, which revealed the issue. The 32-year-old fantasy stalwart could still wind up on the injured list, but it sounds like he’ll attempt to play through it for now. There should be additional clarity on his status in the coming days.
  • MIN Center Fielder #25
There’s been zero indication that Buxton is dealing with any sort of physical ailment, but fantasy managers should continue to closely monitor his status, especially since he was at DH on Sunday against the Rockies. It’ll be Ryan Kreidler patrolling center field with Josh Bell at DH in his absence. There’s no reason for panic at this juncture.
  • MIN Center Fielder #25
Buxton smacked a one-out single in the first inning and rode home on a two-run blast by Kody Clemens. He then delivered an RBI double in the fifth that extended the Twins’ lead to 5-0 and scored on Josh Bell’s two-run double. He then came through with an RBI single in the ninth that tied it at 8-8 after the Rockies’ dramatic comeback in the top half of the frame. With his three-hit night, the 32-year-old outfielder is slashing .276/.331/.588 with 25 homers, 42 RBI and seven stolen bases on the season.
  • MIN Center Fielder #25
Buxton has a full no-trade clause and would need to approve any potential deal, which is something he’s previously stated he has zero interest in doing. The 32-year-old franchise icon launched his American League-leading 25th round-tripper of the season during Monday’s contest against the Dodgers. His name will continue to surface in trade rumors, but it seems like the chances of Buxton actually being moved at the deadline are nonexistent.

Ranger Suarez left his start Sunday with left adductor tightness, according to the Red Sox.

One imagines Suarez will be placed on the IL prior to Tuesday’s game. Even if this is minor, a 15-day IL stint would cost him just one start next weekend and allow him to return the fifth day after the All-Star break.

Manny Machado hit a three-run homer and walked three times as the Padres beat the Dodgers 5-2 on Sunday Night Baseball.

Machado was intentionally walked with two on and two out in the fifth, after which Jack Dreyer got Gavin Sheets to ground out. He came up again with two on in the seventh, but this time there was a righty in the game, no base open and one out. He was pitched to, and he homered just over the wall in center on an 0-2 middle-middle fastball from Kyle Hurt. It was Machado’s fourth homer in eight games and sixth in 14 games.

JP Sears blanked the Dodgers five innings to earn a win on Sunday Night Baseball.

Sears gave up six hard-hit balls but just one hit, which was a single from Miguel Rojas in the fifth. He also threw first-pitch strikes to only eight of 17 batters. Still, he was very successful, obviously. The victory makes him 2-1 with a 4.70 ERA in his three starts for the Padres this year. He’ll probably stay in the rotation for now and face the Blue Jays next weekend.

Mason Miller was perfect in the ninth for his 22nd save Sunday against the Dodgers.

Miller got one strikeout tonight, which was actually his first in three appearances. He averaged 102.1 mph with his 10 fastballs. Miller has pitched on back-to-back days now, so he might be iffy for Monday. The Padres did use him three straight days once back in April.

Emmet Sheehan allowed one run in 4 1/3 innings Sunday against the Padres.

He struck out five and walked three. Back-to-back starts against San Diego have seen Sheehan allow two runs over 9 1/3 innings and lower his ERA from 5.32 to 4.91. More length would be nice, but since he’s been following Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the rotation for nearly two months now, he typically has a fairly rested bullpen behind him. He’ll likely start the final game of the first half next Sunday against the Diamondbacks, which could lead to an especially quick hook.

Tommy Edman struck out as a pinch-hitter against the Padres on Sunday.

Edman was scratched from the starting lineup as a precaution after being hit on the ankle by a Mason Miller pitch in Saturday’s game. He’ll probably be back in the lineup somewhere Monday against the Rockies.

Ranger Suarez left Sunday night’s game in the third inning with an apparent injury.

It seemed to be a leg issue sustained as he was going for a grounder to his left. He took one warmup throw afterwards and then decided to call it a night. Suarez allowed three runs and six hits in 2 2/3 innings before departing. Greg Weissert replaced him.

Emerson Hancock limited the Blue Jays to two hits over seven innings in the Mariners’ 4-0 shutout victory Sunday.

It’s the fourth straight Mariners game to end in a shutout, and they were on the right side of three of them (they beat the Angels 1-0 on Thursday, lost to the Jays 2-0 on Friday and won 11-0 on Saturday). Hancock was originally supposed to piggyback with Logan Gilbert on Saturday, but the Mariners scratched that the night before and Gilbert went out and pitched one-hit ball for seven innings. Now, Hancock has gone seven scoreless for the first time. He previously pitched six scoreless innings twice and seven innings of one-run ball once. He struck out five and generated 14 whiffs today, finishing with a 32 percent CSW. The Mariners probably won’t engage in any funny business in the rotation this week with six games in a row after the off day on Monday. Just like this weekend, they’ll likely go with Luis Castillo on Friday, Gilbert on Saturday and Hancock on Sunday against the Rays.

Trey Yesavage worked six innings and allowed three runs — two earned — in a loss to the Mariners on Sunday.

The unearned run was a product of Ernie Clement committing an error prior to Mitch Garver’s two-run homer in the third. Yesavage racked up seven strikeouts, his second highest total of the year. He allowed just three hits. He still hasn’t surrendered more than five hits in any outing this year, and he’s given up a total of eight in 18 1/3 innings over his last three outings. He’s 4-4 with a 3.31 ERA, and he’ll finish off the first half with a start in San Diego next weekend.

Mitch Garver hit a two-run homer off the Blue Jays’ Trey Yesavage in the Mariners’ win Sunday.

After doing a nice job while Cal Raleigh was on the injured list (.238/.304/.476 with three homers in 15 games), Garver, who was starting for the first time in seven days, is back to playing pretty seldomly since Raleigh returned. The homer today was his first this season with Raleigh on the active roster. He’s hitting just .194/.325/.330 overall.
