Athletics OF prospect Ryan Lasko underwent spinal decompression and stabilization surgery resulting from a C6 - C7 vertebra fracture at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Texas on Tuesday night.
The most encouraging news is that Lasko is in stable condition after suffering a serious injury on a frightening collision with teammate Devin Taylor where they both dove headfirst to attempt to catch a ball in right-center field during Tuesday’s game for Double-A Midland. The 24-year-old center fielder is facing a lengthy recovery process. Athletics manager Mark Kotsay told reporters that the swelling in his spine is to the point that he doesn’t have feeling in his lower half, but there’s hope that it’ll come back. There should be additional updates on his status and long-term outlook in the coming days. We’re all hoping for the best possible outcome for Lasko and his family.
