Bryan Baker secured his 22nd save of the season on Thursday, working a scoreless ninth inning to protect a three-run advantage against the Royals.
Baker made it look quite easy in this one, needing just eight pitches (six strikes) to retire Josh Rojas on strikes, Nick Loftin on a fly ball to center and Michael Massey on a ground ball to second base. He has been one of the biggest surprises in baseball this season, posting a stellar 1.89 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and a 36/11 K/BB ratio over 33 1/3 innings while converting 22 of his first 25 save opportunities.
