Braves designated 1B Rowdy Tellez for assignment.

Tellez was just 2-for-10 in seven games for the Braves with one home run. He had hit .259/.367/.483 in 49 games at Triple-A with eight home runs, 33 RBI, and three steals. He’s basically just a left-handed pinch hitter at this point in his career, but there may be a team that takes a chance on him if he clears waivers.
Swanson red-hot in 'unfathomable' turnaround
James Schiano highlights Dansby Swanson's offensive surge over the past 13 games with the Cubs, which includes nine homers, 29 RBIs, and a place in the history books.

Royals’ left-hander Cole Ragans underwent surgery to repair the UCL in his left elbow and is expected to be sidelined for 10-12 months while recovering.

Based on that timeline, it sounds like he received the internal brace procedure instead of the full Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery for the third time. Either way, he’s going to be shelved until around the All-Star break in 2027.

Red Sox signed RHP Sam McWilliams to a minor league contract.

McWilliams, 30, did a nice job for the Toros de Tijuana in the Mexican League, posting a 3.04 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and a 42/12 K/BB ratio over 26 2/3 innings. Back in affiliated ball, he’ll try once again to climb the ladder to the big leagues for the first time.

Jake McCarthy went 2-for-4 with a homer, four RBI and a walk in the Rockies’ 14-4 rout of the Marlins on Thursday.

McCarthy has had three four-RBI games in the last two months, matching his total from his first five seasons. The homer was his seventh, leaving him one shy of his career high. He has 28 extra-base hits in 264 plate appearances this season, matching his career-high total from a 2024 season in which he had 495 plate appearances for the Diamondbacks.

Michael Lorenzen gave up four runs and walked six in 4 1/3 innings Thursday against the Marlins.

Lorenzen can’t get away with six walks anywhere but certainly not at Coors Field. He has an 8.21 ERA and a 31/22 K/BB in 41 2/3 innings at home this year. On the road, he’s still at 5.68, even though his 36/10 K/BB in 44 1/3 innings is pretty good. Lorenzen will make his next start Tuesday in L.A. against the Dodgers.

Ryan Gusto yielded three runs in three-plus innings Thursday against the Rockies.

Gusto came out after plunking Kyle Karros to start the fourth. He still hasn’t completed five innings in any of his six starts, and his ERA is sitting at 5.55. The Marlins might activate Janson Junk to replace him in the rotation next week. Braxton Garrett also seems like an option after throwing eight scoreless innings Wednesday for Triple-A Jacksonville.

Mickey Moniak went 3-for-5 with a homer, a double and three runs scored Thursday against the Marlins.

Moniak went 2-for-19 in his first seven games back from the IL, but he’s now homered in three straight games to erase the damage that stretch did to his OPS. He’s at .280/.330/.621 with 15 homers in 197 plate appearances.

Otto Lopez finished 3-for-5 with a triple and a double against the Rockies on Thursday.

Lopez is hitting .336, the best mark in the majors. His 115 hits are 10 more than Luis Arraez in second place. He seems like a lock for a reserve spot on the NL All-Star team. Either CJ Abrams or Mookie Betts is going to be the starter at shortstop, though Betts probably won’t be picked for the team if he isn’t the starter.

Royals designated RHP Eric Cerantola for assignment.

It’s been a tough week for the 26-year-old right-hander as he was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday and now gets booted from the team’s 40-man roster to make room for Luke Maile on Thursday. It seems likely that he’ll slip through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as extra bullpen depth for the Royals.

Royals selected the contract of C Luke Maile from Triple-A Omaha.

Maile will add depth behind the plate for the Royals while Salvador Perez nurses a sore elbow. The 35-year-old backstop hasn’t appeared in a big league game this season and has hit .202/.324/.303 with two homers and nine RBI in 105 plate appearances at Triple-A Omaha this season.

Royals optioned OF John Rave to Triple-A Omaha.

With Salvador Perez dealing with a sore elbow, the Royals wanted to get an extra catcher on hand in case of an emergency, to Luke Maile was recalled from Triple-A at the expense of Rave on Thursday. The 28-year-old outfielder should get another opportunity with the Royals before the summer is through.
