Dodgers demote right-hander Kyle Hurt

The Angels claimed Martin off waivers from the Rays just over a week ago. The 25-year-old had posted a 3.97 ERA in 11 1/3 innings for the Rays in the first half of the season and will now join the Angels’ bullpen.

Morgan had a 4.50 ERA, 1.77 WHIP, and 26/13 K/BB ratio across 22 innings over 18 appearances with the Padres this season. He was on the injured list with a knee issue earlier in the summer but was acivated on August 12th and optioned to Triple-A.

This is a tough blow for the Padres and Estrada, who was just activated off the injured list on July 29th after missing time with a knee injury. The 27-year-old had also missed time in April with an elbow issue, so this is his third trip to the IL already this season. No word yet on how long he is expected to be out.

Houser had to leave Tuesday’s start in the second inning, and this is brutal timing for the Giants with Carson Whisenhunt (elbow) likely set for surgery. Houser had been pitching well since moving to the bullpen, so hopefully this is not a long-term injury for the 33-year-old.

Rays closer Bryan Baker was also off on Tuesday, but he had thrown three days in a row prior to that, so the team was likely being cautious with their closer. Baker has an MLB-leading 38 saves, so there is no controversy here. What is worth noting is that Kevin Kelly had not pitched in the last two days, but he was used for two innings in this game, which allowed Wells to get the chance to close out his fifth save of the season.

DeLuca has been playing every day since Victor Mesa Jr. went on the injured list, and he’s gone 19-for-64 (.297) in August with five runs scored, five RBI, and three steals. He could be a deeper league asset in fantasy if he’s going to continue to play this often.

After a torrid start to his MLB career in two games in Sacramento, Clark has found the going a little tough. In August, he’s gone 18-for-84 (.214) with two home runs, nine runs scored, 11 RBI, and a 19/5 K/BB ratio. He also has just one stolen base. The future is still bright for Clark, but he doesn’t have tons of fantasy value right now while hitting at the bottom of the lineup for a mediocre offense.

Melton didn’t walk anybody while striking out four and throwing 69 percent of his pitches for strikes. He had an 11 percent swinging strike rate in this one, but was really only missing bats with his slider. His four-seamer was down about one mph and didn’t get a single whiff on the day, which may have also been why Melton used it 19 percent less often than he normally does. Even though this was a solid outing, Melton’s last two starts have been two of his three worst starts of the season. He’s at 109 total innings on the season this year and threw over 120 last year, so he shouldn’t be tiring. With the Twins, Guardians, and Rockies up next, he should finish the season on a high note.

Peralta allowed just two hits and no walks while striking out four. He posted a 62 percent strike rate with a 30 percent CSW and a 12 percent swinging strike rate on the day. This was easily his best performance as a member of the Rays, and the first time he’s allowed no runs in a start since June 25th. Actually, it’s only the third time he’s allowed no runs in a start all season. As we expected, the Rays continue to have Peralta lean on his changeup more, even to righties, and he had a 31 percent swinging strike rate on the pitch on Tuesday. To righties, he located the pitch far better in the zone, but he focused on chases outside of the zone against lefties. He’ll look to keep it going with a revenge game of sorts against the Mets on Wednesday; although, it’s unclear who would want revenge on whom.

On Tuesday, Red Sox manager Chad Tracy said that Rutschman “felt something” in his elbow during Monday’s game, but the team wasn’t concerned. This is now the second day in a row that Rutschman has been held out of the lineup. The Red Sox may believe they can beat the Marlins without his bat and want to ensure he’s healthy for Friday’s series opener against the Yankees. However, with Rutschman’s injury history, it makes sense to be a little concerned. Connor Wong will catch and bat ninth, while Mickey Gasper, who homered twice on Tuesday, is the DH and bats fifth.
