Gray tossed two scoreless innings, stranding two runners in the second inning, but ran into trouble in the third. He recorded two quick outs, then struggled to find the third as the Blue Jays brought five runs in on six consecutive hits, including a three-run blast by George Springer. Gray would give the Red Sox two more scoreless innings, ending his day after five with three strikeouts. It was the first start in which Gray allowed more than three runs since April 14. The 36-year-old right-hander will take a 2.78 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and a 93/28 K/BB ratio across 106 2/3 innings into a start against the Athletics in Sacramento on Thursday.

Devers put the Giants on the board with a base hit in the third inning to drive in a run. He then blew the game open with a three-run homer off Brent Suter. That’s back-to-back days with a home run for Devers, giving him seven in July and 22 on the season. The 29-year-old slugger is slashing .249/.319/.489 with 55 runs scored and 60 RBI across 442 plate appearances.

Lee extended the Giants’ lead in the third inning, highlighting a five-run frame with a three-run blast off Ryan Johnson for his sixth home run of the year. He then added a double in the fifth and was hit by a pitch in the seventh. The 27-year-old outfielder is hitting .302/.336/.435 with six homers, 51 runs scored, 37 RBI, and six steals across 384 plate appearances.

Ray was brilliant against the Angels on Saturday, holding them scoreless over six innings on his way to a win. He scattered six hits and two walks, tossing 54 of 80 pitches for strikes to collect five strikeouts. It was an excellent showcase for the 34-year-old left-hander, who could find himself on the move by the August 3 trade deadline. He’ll take a 3.16 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and a 101/56 K/BB ratio across 116 2/3 innings into a start against the Padres in San Diego on Thursday.

Johnson held the Giants scoreless over two innings, then fell apart in the fifth as he gave up five runs on five hits, including a three-run homer by Jung Hoo Lee. Two hits and a hit batter would bring a run in and leave two runners on in the fourth as Johnson was chased at 69 pitches. Both inherited runners would come in to score, making it eight earned runs allowed. The 23-year-old right-hander will take a 7.34 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, and a 34/17 K/BB ratio across 41 2/3 innings into a start against the Brewers in Anaheim on Friday.

Acuña played the full game in right field during the front end of Saturday’s doubleheader for Gwinnett before sitting out the nightcap. He told reporters afterwards that he’s ready to go with all signs pointing to a return to Atlanta’s lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Mets in New York. It seems highly unlikely that he’ll join the Braves for their final game against the Orioles on Sunday, but stranger things have happened.

Roberts added that Ohtani’s left knee doesn’t feel 100 percent following his latest bullpen session earlier this week, but expressed confidence that he’ll pitch again this season. There’s zero incentive for the Dodgers to push Ohtani back out on the mound at this stage of the season, which means that fantasy managers shouldn’t count on him making a significant impact, if any, from a pitching standpoint over the final two months.

The 32-year-old veteran has managed to stay mostly healthy and has put together an outstanding Pirates debut with 21 homers and 65 RBI across 427 plate appearances.

Avila, who has struggled in opening frames throughout this season, gets the ball without an opener after limiting the Giants to just two runs and piling up seven punchouts over 6 1/3 innings earlier this week. The unheralded 24-year-old has emerged as a back-end rotation stabilizer for Kansas City and is starting to routinely miss enough bats that he could be interesting from a fantasy standpoint, especially in deeper mixed leagues. It’s going to take some refinement from a command and control standpoint for him to make another leap, but he’s an interesting talent.
