Mike Paredes scratched from start with oblique strain

Paredes was scratched from his scheduled start against the Athletics on Saturday due to the injury, so it’s not surprising to see him wind up on the injured list. He’ll miss at least a couple of weeks while recovering. Connor Prielipp was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move on Sunday.

Rojas gave up one hit, walked one and struck out five. Mike Parades was scratched with a left oblique strain that he suffered while warming up in the bullpen. Rojas stepped in and provided four scoreless innings in spot duty. It was his fourth start and 10th appearance overall this season. Rojas has a 2.81 ERA as a swingman for the Twins.

No additional details at this time. It’s possible Paredes got hurt while warming up in the bullpen. Kendry Rojas took over as Minnesota’s starter in his place. It’ll be Connor Prielipp (blister) coming off the injured list to start Sunday’s series finale.

There was some speculation that rookie Connor Prielipp (blister) would be activated from the injured list to make this start, but that doesn’t appear to be happening. However, Prielipp figures to take the ball for Sunday’s series finale with Twins ace Joe Ryan being scratched due to arm fatigue. Paredes holds an underwhelming 4.72 ERA and 19/13 K/BB ratio across 34 1/3 innings at the highest level this season. He’s not a recommended fantasy option.

With Connor Prielipp (blister) heading to the injured list, Rojas could serve as a bulk relief option with Mike Paredes during bullpen games. Rojas has a 1.65 ERA in 16 1/3 innings for the Twins this season and could be an intriguing option in 2027 if he gets a chance to be a full-time starter.

Paredes took the mound with a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but gave up a solo homer to Trent Grisham with two outs in the frame to draw things back to even. He would retire Austin Wells on the next at-bat to end the inning, and returned to pitch a scoreless second inning. After a brief rain delay, Paredes returned to toe the rubber in the third inning and was again taken deep. This time, it was Ben Rice who got the best of Paredes, as Rice’s two-run homer put the Yankees up 3-1. Paredes would make it through the fourth inning without giving up a run, but was pulled after throwing 81 pitches. He’ll be hard to trust in fantasy for his next start which is scheduled for Thursday against the Guardians.

Paredes gave up eight hits, walked none and struck out two. He fell to 0-1 with the loss. Paredes allowed two home runs with both coming against Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman. The 25-year-old right-hander has a 4.26 ERA, but his 5.27 xFIP is a major red flag. Paredes is off the fantasy radar heading into his next start on the road against the Yankees next weekend.

Rojas allowed one run over two innings in a spot start against the Dodgers on Tuesday. He had recently been on the injured list with elbow inflammation, so the Twins may try to stretch him out a little more in a lower-stakes environment in Triple-A.

Rojas was making his first appearance since missing three weeks with elbow inflammation and coming off the IL on Sunday. He pitched only 1 1/3 innings in his one rehab appearance, so no one was expecting him to go deep at all tonight. Austin Voth replaced him in the third and went on to give up six runs — five earned — in four-plus innings, which will probably lead to his removal from the roster on Wednesday.

There’s zero indication that Ryan has been traded despite speculation running rampant on social media. The 30-year-old will get a reprieve from facing a loaded Los Angeles lineup and should be ready to take the ball again in a couple days once he’s feeling better. It’ll be intriguing rookie southpaw Kendry Rojas taking the ball against the Dodgers in his place.
