Tyler Holton to serve as opener on Friday night

Klassen has been out since the end of last month with lower back inflammation. It sounds like he’d probably be ready to return in early October if the schedule permitted.

Yesavage, coming back from knee surgery, threw 34 pitches in his rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday. It might be tempting to start him next week in fantasy leagues, but between the zero chances of a win on Monday and the possibility that he’ll be scratched next weekend if the Jays are out of contention, he doesn’t seem like a top option.

Benge led off the second inning with a solo homer off Andrew Painter to put the Mets on the board. He later drew a walk and scored a run in the sixth and reached for a third time with a single in the seventh. Benge then drove in a run with an infield hit in the eighth, setting the Mets rookie record with 156 hits. The 23-year-old outfielder is one home run away from a 20/20 rookie season; he’s at 19 homers with 81 runs scored, 61 RBI, and 22 steals while slashing .276/.339/.420 across 622 plate appearances.

Alvarez led off the third inning with a base hit, then gave the Mets the lead with a three-run blast off Andrew Painter in the fifth inning. The 24-year-old catcher is hitting .229/.310/.398 with 16 homers and 40 RBI across 399 plate appearances.

Bohm put the Phillies on the board with a base hit in the fourth inning to drive in a run. He then collected his second RBI with another base hit in the fifth before drawing a walk to reach for a third time in the seventh. The 30-year-old third baseman is hitting .251/.317/.390 with 15 homers and 86 RBI across 600 plate appearances.

Scott cruised through three scoreless innings before giving up a run on three hits in the fourth. Getting into the third time through the order, Scott gave up one more run on two hits and a sacrifice fly in the fifth, then departed with two outs at 79 pitches with seven strikeouts. One inherited runner would come in to score. The 27-year-old right-hander will carry a 3.85 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and a 134/47 K/BB ratio across 110 innings into a road start against the Nationals on Friday.

Painter struck out two in a scoreless first inning, then gave up a solo homer to Carson Benge in the second. After two more scoreless frames, Painter ran into some trouble in the fifth. A walk and a base hit put two runners on for Francisco Alvarez, who took Painter deep for a three-run blast. Painter would strike out the next three batters, then recorded the first out in the sixth before ending his day at 85 pitches with seven strikeouts. The 23-year-old right-hander will take a 5.59 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and a 107/44 K/BB ratio across 120 2/3 innings into a start against the Rays in Philadelphia on Friday.

No word yet, but it’s quite possible his back was acting up again. He dealt with tightness and came out after 709 pitches last weekend against the D-backs. Quantrill retired all four batters he faced before being replaced by Jordan Montgomery.

“Woozy” but not officially in concussion protocol, apparently. Which doesn’t seem right. Eldridge hasn’t been ruled out for Sunday, but there’s less optimism here now than there was after last night’s game.

Sanmartin finishes the year with a 4.22 ERA in 21 1/3 innings for the Giants. He’ll probably be bumped from the 40-man when the Giants have to activate all of their 60-day IL guys next month.
