MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy reported that the Brewers’ trade proposal for Tarik Skubal included infielder Luis Peña.

McCalvy reports that the Brewers’ initial proposal “was also three prospects, according to sources. All three were hitters, and at least two were Top 100 prospects.” While McCalvy is unsure exactly which three names were in the final proposal, he reports that “one of them was shortstop Luis Peña,” who is the18th-ranked prospect on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100. This season, Peña is hitting .308/.396/.447 in 45 games between Single-A and High-A with two home runs, 19 RBI, and 22 steals. The Brewers must have been comfortable enough with the recent performance of Cooper Pratt to deal Peña, but the Tigers went in another direction. Perhaps they preferred Zyhir Hope’s upside or wanted a pitching prospect like River Ryan. Those are the answers we’re unlikely to ever get.

Peña could miss the start of next year with the injury he sustained on a steal attempt of third base. One of the game’s top prospects, the 19-year-old Peña hit .296/.380/.415 in 70 games this season. Most of those came in High-A, but he was moved up to Double-A before getting hurt.

The 19-year-old phenom suffered the injury while sliding into third base on a stolen base attempt. He had to be carted off the field and was put in an air cast before being taken to the hospital for further evaluation. The Brewers should provide an update on his status as soon as more information becomes available, but given the timing, it sounds like this will end his 2026 season.

Peña, the reported centerpiece of the Brewers’ offer for Tarik Skubal, was hitting .298/.384/.420 with 27 steals in 51 games for High-A Wisconsin. The 19-year-old is probably looking at a move off shortstop at some point, but his offensive potential could still make him an All-Star-type player elsewhere.

Peña celebrated the promotion by homering in his first at-bat on Tuesday night. The 18-year-old prodigy has ascended top top-10 prospect status from a dynasty standpoint after batting .307/.374/.470 with six homers and 40 steals in 71 games for Low-A Carolina in his stateside debut. He projects as a future five-category impact fantasy contributor and is already one of the top prospects in baseball.

Peña has blossomed into one of the top prospects in the dynasty landscape over the last few months, slashing a sublime .307/.365/.497 with six home runs and 32 stolen bases over 46 games as one of the youngest players in the entire Carolina League. The 18-year-old prodigy has ascended to top-10 range prospect for dynasty purposes — along with organization mate Jesús Made — based entirely on his power/speed combination and production for his age and level. He’s checked every metaphorical box in his extremely impressive stateside debut.

Peña was involved in an ugly collision at first base during Sunday’s game at Low-A Carolina and will get some extra time off to rest and recover out of an abundance of caution. The 18-year-old prodigy has been one of this season’s fastest-rising prospects from a dynasty standpoint as one of the Carolina League’s top hitters, slashing .327/.400/.505 with three homers and 21 steals through 25 games.

The Brewers are running back their Game 1 lineup for Game 2 of the World Series against the Rays on Saturday.

The arrangement helped put a win on the board last night, though the offense was limited to three runs and eight hits. The lineup: LF Jackson Chourio, 1B Jake Bauers, DH Christian Yelich, C William Contreras, 2B Brice Turang, CF Garrett Mitchell, SS Cooper Pratt, RF Sal Frelick and 3B David Hamilton.

Richie Palacios is back at second base over Ben Williamson in Game 2 against the Brewers.

Palacios almost always plays against righties, but the Rays went for defense in using Williamson over him last night. That’s the only personnel change from last night. The lineup: DH Yandy Díaz, 1B Jonathan Aranda, LF Chandler Simpson, 3B Junior Caminero, C Liam Hicks, 2B Palacios, CF Jonny DeLuca, RF Victor Mesa Jr. and SS Taylor Walls.

Keyber Rodriguez homered twice and walked Friday for Aragua of the Venezuelan Winter League.

The 25-year-old Rodriguez is just 6-for-30 so far, but he’s tied for the league lead with four homers. Rodriguez has been in the Rangers system since 2018, and he hit .268/.325/.459 with 19 homers between Double- and Triple-A this season. Barring a surprising decision to add him to the 40-man, he’ll be eligible for minor league free agency after the World Series.

Hancel Rincón picked up a win after pitching a hitless inning in relief for Estrellas of the Dominican Winter League on Friday.

Estrellas is well stocked with Cardinals this winter; Rincón got to throw to Leo Bernal in his appearance last night, the lead he was handed was in part supplied by a two-run triple from Cesar Prieto. Rincón has allowed two runs in 4 2/3 innings to date.

Aron Estrada went 5-for-5 with two doubles and a steal for Zulia of the Venezuelan Winter League on Friday.

The 21-year-old Estrada slugged 25 homers while amassing a .281/.325/.482 in a 2026 season spent mostly in Double-A. His defense at second base still needs some work, and he’d be a less interesting prospect if he’s forced to an outfield corner, but as a switch-hitter with impressive pop, he’s a threat to see some major league time next year.

Carlos Colmenarez had a grand slam and walked twice for Lara of the Venezuelan Winter League on Friday.

Colmenarez, 22, had a rather odd season that saw him open up in Triple-A because of some injuries in the Rays system and finish it in High-A. He also missed time in May and August, so he was limited to 66 games in which he hit .249/.359/.442. That he’s a left-handed hitter helps his cause, but he has quite a bit of work to do if he’s going to land a utility gig someday.

The Yankees and pitching coach Matt Blake are in agreement on a three-year deal through 2029.

Blake’s contract was expiring, and he would have been in considerable demand around the league had he opted to look around. Instead, he’ll remain the Yankees’ pitching coach, a role he’s held since the 2020 season.

Christian Yelich went 1-for-4 with an RBI triple and a run scored on Friday night, leading the Brewers to a 3-2 victory over the Rays in Game 1 of the World Series.

Yelich got the Brewers on the board first with a run-scoring triple off of Nick Martinez in the home half of the first inning. He then scored on an RBI single by William Contreras. That was his lone hit in the ballgame but played a major role in the Brewers’ taking a 1-0 lead in the Series. Expect the 34-year-old slugger to be back near the top of the lineup for Saturday night’s showdown against Rays’ right-hander Drew Rasmussen.

Jackson Chourio went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored as the Brewers triumphed over the Rays in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday evening.

Chourio led off the home half of the first inning with a single off of Nick Martinez, then raced around to score the game’s first run on an RBI triple by Christian Yelich. The 22-year-old superstar also plated a run of his own with a two-out RBI single in the seventh inning that increased the Brewers’ advantage to 3-1 and proved to be the difference in the ballgame. The Brewers will look to take a commanding 2-0 series lead when they take on Rays’ right-hander Drew Rasmussen on Saturday evening in Milwaukee.

Trevor Megill walked the tightrope against the Rays in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday night, escaping with a one-run advantage as the Brewers took a 1-0 Series lead.

It wasn’t the smoothest of innings for Megill by any means, as he allowed one-out singles to Jonathan Aranda and Chandler Simpson and walked Junior Caminero to load the bases. He then got Liam Hicks to ground into what looked to be a game-ending double play, but Caminero was ruled safe at second base upon umpire review. Not to fear though, as he battled back to retire Jonny DeLuca on strikes to end the ballgame. Megill needed 20 pitches to get the job done though, which could impact his availability in Game 2 on Saturday.
