Colt Keith went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI in a lopsided victory over the Mariners on Thursday afternoon.

Keith smacked an RBI double in the opening inning that increased the Tigers’ lead to 3-0. He then tacked on an RBI single in the seventh to extend the Tigers’ advantage to 8-0 and picked up a single against Victor Robles then came around to score in the ninth inning. His bat has been heating up in recent weeks, slashing .345/.391/.571 with three homers and 13 RBI in his last 84 at-bats.

All four hits for Keith were singles. The 24-year-old gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead with one of those knocks in the first, and he added another RBI with a sac fly an inning later. On the year, Keith is hitting an uninspiring — but not abhorrent — .256/.302/.399 over the first 98 games of the campaign.

Colt Keith belted his eighth home run of the season on Friday night as the Tigers walloped the visiting Phillies in the opener of their three-game weekend series.

Keith ambushed a first-pitch fastball from Max Lazar in the seventh inning for a 415-foot (101.1-mph EV) solo shot that increased the Tigers’ advantage to 8-2. That would be his only hit in five at-bats on the evening. For the season, the 24-year-old infielder is slashing an underwhelming .249/.296/.398 with the aforementioned eight long balls and 22 RBI.

Colt Keith hit a two-run homer and walked in three plate appearances before being lifted for a pinch-hitter Tuesday in the Tigers’ 6-2 win over the A’s.

It’d be nice if Keith got to play a full game once in a while, but to go along with his issues against lefties — which are probably exacerbated by him hardly ever getting to face them — he’s just not one of the Tigers’ better defensive infielders. Keith’s homer off J.T. Ginn was his seventh in his last 20 games after he hit zero in his first 62.

It appears to be nothing more than a routine day off for the 26-year-old slugger. Torkelson has had a rough time overall at the dish this season, slashing a disappointing .207/.308/.404 with 12 long balls, 32 RBI and a 104/36 K/BB ratio in 319 plate appearances. Colt Keith will cover first base in his absence and will bat second for the Tigers against Astros’ right-hander Hunter Brown on Sunday afternoon.
