Red Sox move Isiah Kiner-Falefa to 60-day IL

Caglianone was lifted for pinch-hitter John Rave in the fifth inning. He was 1-for-1 with a single and was also hit by a pitch earlier in the contest prior to departing. It’s a tough break for fantasy managers since he’s been on a tear at the plate recently. There should be an update on his status shortly.

The deal is now official. Cortes has been optioned to Low-A Clearwater to continue working his way back from last year’s left arm surgery. The 31-year-old southpaw could potentially be an option, most likely as a multi-inning relief weapon, for the Phillies at some point in the closing stages of the regular season and playoffs. He’s compiled a strong 3.94 ERA across 602 1/3 innings in the majors, mostly as a starter, since 2018.

No real surprise here. Keller underwent a right elbow UCL reconstruction surgery with an internal brace and flexor tendon repair last month. The 31-year-old signed a two-year contract with the Phillies last offseason and was highly unlikely to pitch again for them given his 13-16 month recovery timeline following the procedure. The move frees up a spot on Philadelphia’s 40-man roster to sign lefty starter Nestor Cortes.

Bateman was 0-for-2 before being replaced by Myles Straw in the fifth inning. He’ll undergo further evaluation to determine the severity of the injury. The 24-year-old rookie has hit .271 (13-for-48) with four RBI and one steal in 11 games since being called up earlier this month.

Moreno was a thorn in the side of the Red Sox in this series at Fenway Park, tagging Payton Tolle for a two-run double with two outs in the fifth innings of this one after clubbing a grand slam during Tuesday’s contest. Perhaps it’s only fitting since he was once the top prospect for the division-rival Blue Jays. He’s settled in nicely as a run-producing middle-of-the-order mainstay for the Diamondbacks.

Gasper delivered the key knock for the Red Sox in this one, taking Arizona starter Brandon Pfaadt deep for a game-tying blast with two outs in the sixth inning. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as the Diamondbacks managed to pull out the win in extra innings. The 30-year-old journeyman went 34 straight games without a homer before going deep in three straight games against Arizona in this series. At this point, he should be trying to get traded to the NL West in the offseason just so he can face them a few more times.

Waldschmidt also drew a pair of walks, reaching base safely in four of his five plate appearances during the extra-inning marathon at Fenway Park. The 23-year-old rookie has really turned things around in the last couple weeks and is up to .279/.342/.391 with two homers, 17 RBI and seven steals across 61 games this season.

Arenado put Arizona ahead with a broken-bat single to shallow left field in the 10th inning. The 35-year-old veteran was back at third base and hitting fifth after missing two games with an intercostal strain. It doesn’t appear to be a significant concern moving forward.

Nootbaar came off the bench and went deep for the first time in a Diamondbacks uniform when he took Red Sox reliever Greg Weissert out to right field in the sixth inning. It was his fourth round-tripper of the season.

Pfaadt saw his remarkable streak snapped at 32 2/3 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run when Nick Sogard blasted a leadoff homer on the very first pitch of the ballgame. It was the first round-tripper he’s surrendered in eight starts dating back to June 30. He was burned by the long ball in this one, serving up three of them for the first time since last June. It was a three-run homer by Mickey Gasper with two outs in the sixth inning that accounted for most of the damage against him. He finished with a season-high eight strikeouts and didn’t hand out a free pass. The 27-year-old has earned fantasy managers’ trust again with a sustained run of success, allowing two earned runs or fewer in nine of 10 starts since returning to the majors back on June 30. He’ll face the Cubs on Tuesday in his next start.
