Bryce Elder received a no-decision in Sunday’s game against the Diamondbacks, allowing one earned run on four hits over six innings pitched.

Elder struck out five and walked one as Atlanta went on to win 5-3. The right-hander needed just 75 pitches to record 18 outs, but he’d struggled badly lately, so it makes sense that he wasn’t pushed. He came into Sunday with a 6.29 ERA over his previous 12 starts dating back to May 27. This was a step in the right direction, but there’s little reason for fantasy managers to trust him, with a trip to Milwaukee up next.

Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong boosted his MVP case after hitting two home runs against the White Sox. The pair of homers made Crow-Armstrong the 10th MLB player to record back-to-back 30-30 seasons.

Give Elder some credit: he looked like he ought to have been done after throwing 77 pitches while giving up five in the first and one more in both the second and third, but he was able to help protect the pen by pitching two scoreless innings afterwards. It’s the third time this year that Elder has allowed at least six earned runs, and two of those have come in his only two starts versus the Mets. He’ll take an 8-7 record and a 4.03 ERA into a start Sunday against the D-backs.

Elder was in complete control for this entire start. He retired 12 of the first 13 batters he faced before the Marlins scratched their lone run across in the fifth on a walk, double, and groundout. Then, he cruised through his final two frames to complete seven innings for the first time in nearly three months. He used his cutter to force a heap of lazy pop-ups and put this strong outing together while only forcing four total swings-and-misses. He now has a 3.69 ERA through 126 2/3 innings this season and is scheduled for a two-start week against the Mets and Diamondbacks coming up.

Sale won’t start at all against Miami, and instead is being pushed back to the weekend series against the Yankees. Atlanta will instead push up the other arms in the rotation, so Grant Holmes, Bryce Elder and Martin Perez will be the arms who go instead. It’s disappointing Sale won’t get a two-start week this late in the fantasy season, but understandable.

This was one of the starts where it’s hard to believe Elder only let up one run. The Nationals were all over him for 10 hard-hit balls, but a fair chunk of those were hit on the ground. Still, they looked remarkably comfortable in the box all night and rarely chased any pitches out of the strike zone. He did his job though and got both a win and quality start out of it. Elder closed out July with a 3.00 ERA across 21 innings with 18 strikeouts and 10 walks after pitching to a 8.10 ERA in June. He’s scheduled to face the Marlins at home next time out.

Elder gave up four hits, walked four and struck out eight. With one out in the third inning, Pete Alonso reached on an error. After a strikeout that would’ve ended the inning had it not been for the error, Elder allowed back-to-back singles that produced an unearned run. In the fifth inning, Elder allowed a solo home run to Gunnar Henderson. He has a 3.96 ERA this year. Elder is lined up to face the Nationals at home next Thursday.

Elder gave up five hits, walked one and struck out four. He improved to 6-6 with the win. Elder had only allowed a solo home run to Manny Machado after six innings. He was removed after allowing another solo home run to Ty France to begin the seventh inning. The win was Elder’s first since June 2 and the quality start was his first since June 7. He’s lined up to face the Orioles on the road this weekend.

Elder was spotted six runs of support in Atlanta’s first four innings, but couldn’t qualify for the win after giving up three homers to the Pirates. Elder carries an 8.47 ERA over his last seven starts and the magic appears to be gone for the moment. Mixed leaguers don’t have to roster him through this stretch, though he should continue to get plenty of run support.

That means Bryce Elder will get the ball for one of the final two games of the series with Grant Holmes likely to draw the starting assignment in the other. Elder had his previous start skipped for some extra rest. Waldrep authored a strong performance against the Cardinals last week, allowing three runs over 5 1/3 innings, during his first start of the season. He offers enough strikeout upside to be interesting in deeper fantasy leagues.

Elder will get some additional time off to recover after experiencing some diminished velocity during his last start against the Giants where he allowed five runs over four innings last Saturday. The 27-year-old will be pushed back to next week’s series against the Pirates. It’ll be Grant Holmes taking the ball for Friday’s game against the Mets.

Four runs scored on two homers from Rafael Devers that would have gone out of 17 and 15 ballparks, respectively. While there was little reason to believe in Elder as anything more than a fifth starter coming into the year, his peripherals have remained very solid even during his recent downturn that has lift him 5-6 with a 4.01 ERA. Since he’s in a nice situation in Atlanta, those in deeper mixed leaguers might want to stick with him. He’ll next face the Mets at home.

Braves signed C Chuckie Robinson to a minor league contract.

Always looking for catcher depth, the Braves brought in Robinson in to serve as organizational depth. He went 2-for-23 in a short-term back-up role with the Dodgers between being designated for assignment on two separate occasions.

Reds promoted C Will Banfield from Triple-A Louisville.

Banfield came up for a short, 10 plate appearance stint last season and went 0-for-10 with six strikeouts. Yet, he’s regarded as a quality defender behind the plate and will likely be used to help the Reds in that area since they’ve allowed the second-most stolen bases as a team this season. Noelvi Marte was optioned in a corresponding move, so Banfield will serve as the third catcher on their roster.

Reds optioned OF Noelvi Marte to Triple-A Louisville.

Marte performed poorly in his two-and-a-half month stint back in the big leagues with a .189/.229/.321 slash line through 201 plate appearances. What started out as a near full-time role drifting into a part-time one over the last few weeks as Marte ceded playing time to the newly promoted Hector Rodríguez. In a corresponding move, the Reds promoted Will Banfield to be the third catcher on their roster. Marte’s stock has fallen dramatically over the last few years and he shouldn’t be considered much more than organizational depth at this point. He could really use a change of scenery.

Reds optioned RHP Zach McCambley to Triple-A Louisville.

This is a procedural move after McCambley served as the 27th man on Monday during a double-header against the Cardinals. He tossed a scoreless inning with two strikeouts in his appearance and will likely be part of the Reds’ bullpen shuffle for the rest of the season.

Mets RHP Justin Hagenman (rib) sent to Single-A St. Lucie for a rehab assignment.

Hagenman fractured a rib during spring training and hasn’t appeared in a game at any level yet this season. He had a 4.65 ERA, 23 strikeouts, and just two walks across 23 2/3 innings in a swing-man role with the Mets last season,

Mets activated RHP Austin Warren from the 10-day injured list.

Warren has been out since early July with a right forearm strain. After a strong run early in the season out of their bullpen, he let up nine earned runs in his final two appearances before succumbing to the IL. Before then, he had a 2.45 ERA across 33 innings and could be a candidate to pick up holds within the Mets’ chaotic bullpen.

Mets optioned RHP Chayce McDermott to Triple-A Syracuse.

The Mets acquired McDermott from the Dodgers at the trade deadline for catcher Ben Rortvedt and he’s flashed some stuff in 3 1/3 innings of work split between two outings. Yet, his command was poor as it’s been his whole career evidenced by a 7.9 BB/9 across 18 1/3 big league innings.

Abner Uribe (elbow) will throw a 15-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday.

The hope was that Uribe would only need a minimum stay on the injured list after going out with a mild flexor strain last week. Throwing a bullpen only a few days later is a great sign that one of the league’s best setup men will be back soon.

Cooper Pratt (hamstring) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with High-A Wisconsin on Tuesday.

This is great news and fits Pratt’s initial timeline to return in August after suffering a mild hamstring strain just under two weeks ago. He was heating up before going out with a .305 batting average and five stolen bases over his last 30 games. Also, funny enough, he’ll begin this rehab assignment on his 22nd birthday.

Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports that Ketel Marte is heading back to Arizona to get an MRI on his knee.

The Ketel Marte saga continues. First it was a disappearance, then a personal issue, and now a potential knee injury. Rather than us getting any answers, this story is only become more muddled as no clear indication has been given as to why Marte didn’t show up to the park for Tuesday’s game and when or if he will be back. Hopefully we get a more definitive update soon, but nothing seems imminent right now.
