Giants signed INF Cristhian Adames to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Sacramento.

Adames was released by the Cubs this past Monday. He’s been limited to 18 games this year in the minors because of injuries but has flashed good power when healthy. The 27-year-old infielder could get a shot in San Francisco at some point in the second half.

Ben Rice

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Ben Rice could “catch a bit more” and is expected to play regularly against left-handed pitchers.

This confirms some speculation last week from The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner. While the Paul Goldschmidt reunion looked like something tough for Rice after Goldy played against left-handers last year, this is a terrific update for Rice’s fantasy value. He may even be able to maintain catcher eligibility for 2027 if he gets into enough games at the position, giving him some extra keeper league value going forward.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Gerrit Cole (elbow) could start throwing live batting practice in a couple of weeks.

He added that Cole could graduate to game action by the end of spring training. The word over the offseason was that Cole was likely to be out until late May or early June, and this update seems to jive well with that timetable. Cole figures to rejoin the Yankees at midseason as long as his rehab and ramp-up go well.

Daniel Palencia

Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Daniel Palencia would have closing duties if the season started today.

It’s notable because Counsell has normally given a boilerplate answer about having “an outs-getter” or something along those lines. Palencia looks like a good bet for 30 or more saves if he can stay healthy this season, and the fact that there’s no committee that we know of entering Spring Training is great news for his fantasy stock.

Miguel Andujar

SD Left Fielder #38

Padres signed LF Miguel Andujar to a one-year, $4 million contract.

There’s a mutual option for 2027. Andujar figures to be the primary DH for the Friars in 2026 and could also see time as a corner infielder and outfielder. He will probably bat low enough in the order to not be much of a threat for runs scored, but could be a useful NL-only player at the outset of the season.

Corbin Carroll

AZ Outfield #7
MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert reports Diamondbacks OF Corbin Carroll suffered a broken hamate bone in batting practice on Tuesday.

We are begging good hitters to stop breaking their hamate bones. Carroll is set to undergo surgery on the hamate bone today. Gilbert says Carroll will miss “significant time” this spring. It sounds like he’s potentially in line to start the season on the injured list, he will miss the World Baseball Classic. Jorge Barrosa figures to be more involved in the early-season outfield plan if Carroll misses enough time to push his return past the start of the season.

Zach Eflin

BAL Pitcher #24

Orioles RHP Zach Eflin (back) is a “full go” for Spring Training.

He is “having a normal camp” per MASN’s Roch Kubatko. Eflin isn’t going to be high on draft boards, but he’s in a good enough situation in Baltimore to be a worthwhile AL-only league flier or a streamer in 12-team leagues if he makes it through Spring Training healthy.

Colin Selby

BAL Pitcher #60

Orioles placed RHP Colin Selby on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder inflammation.

Not good. Selby pitched in 11 games for the Orioles in 2025 out of the pen and carried a 3.21 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in a low-leverage role. He wasn’t on the fantasy radar, but his absence may clear the way for some different members of Baltimore’s bullpen depth to make a roster push.

Jordan Westburg

BAL Infield #11

Orioles GM Mike Elias said Jordan Westburg (oblique) will be a “few games late into spring play.”

He’s turned a corner, per Elias, but this oblique injury popped up three weeks ago. It’s not expected to impact his status for Opening Day at this time. This shouldn’t impact Westburg’s fantasy stock too much from where we sit today, but as we learned with Gunnar Henderson last Spring Training, sometimes the lingering injuries do indeed linger.

Jackson Holliday

Orioles placed IF Jackson Holliday on the 15-day injured list with a broken hamate bone.

He’ll undergo surgery tomorrow. Orioles GM Mike Elias said his timeline will be measured in “weeks” after Opening Day, so it sounds like fantasy managers can expect him to miss most if not all of April. The Orioles could move Jordan Westburg to second base early in the season to play Coby Mayo at third, or perhaps they’ll simply give Jeremiah Jackson more run at second base.

Josh Hader

Astros manager Joe Espada said Josh Hader will resume his throwing program Wednesday.

Imaging revealed inflammation of Hader’s biceps tendon and Espada said he has not thrown the last “10 or 11" days. While this timeline gives him plenty of time to ramp up for the season, we don’t love to hear about inflammation on an MRI in February. We’ll be monitoring Hader’s status closely but this is probably something worth breaking a tie in your draft against Hader for if your league is drafting in the near future.
