Bowden’s last appearance in the big leagues came back in 2021 when he posted a lackluster 6.56 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and 42/21 K/BB ratio across 35 2/3 innings (39 appearances) for the Rockies. The 30-year-old southpaw spent all of last year at in the Braves’ organization at Triple-A Gwinnett, compiling a pedestrian 4.03 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 35/17 K/BB ratio across 29 innings (27 appearances). He’ll function as emergency left-handed relief depth for the rebuilding Athletics.

Goodman’s second homer increased the Rockies’ lead from 6-3 to 9-3 in the top of the ninth. That proved quite important after Jordan Romano gave up a three-run homer to Andrew Benintendi in the bottom of the inning. Goodman’s 40th homer season is the 15th by the ninth different player in Rockies history. He’s tied for fifth in the majors with 41 homers, and he’s first among qualified hitters in AB/HR at 12.56.

Quintana gave up homers to Brenton Doyle and Luisangel Acuña, two players who had combined for five home runs all year. Quintana ends up with a 5.44 ERA in a year in which he was limited to 11 starts by an elbow sprain. He’ll be 38 next year, and he’ll probably have to take a minor league contract if he wants to continue pitching.

Feltner spent the last two weeks in the pen after opening up 5-10 with a 5.88 ERA and did well in allowing just one earned run over 11 2/3 innings in three appearances. He should be back in the rotation mix for the Rockies next year, but he needs to figure out how to record a few more strikeouts. His K rate was down to 17 percent this year.

The White Sox wasted little time in pulling Martin in favor of Noah Schultz. Martin opened the game by committing an error while covering first base on a grounder and went on to retire only two of the seven batters he faced. He took the loss to finish the season 9-8 with a 3.95 ERA. It’s actually fairly incredible that he finished the season over .500 despite going without a win after June 10. He was 0-4 with a 5.12 ERA in 11 outings in the second half.

Meidroth didn’t start because of hamstring discomfort, but it’s a good sign that he was able to enter the game and stick around to play second base. He still might get Sunday off, especially since the game is now a meaningless one for the White Sox.

With the White Sox losing, the Guardians have clinched the AL Central and will host the Wild Card series between the two clubs. Rocchio homered from both sides of the plate. His first just made it out down the left field line, while the second, to right, had a little more room to spare. Neither were barrels, though. It’s Rocchio’s second two-homer game of the month, as well as his second in 434 career games dating back to 2023. He has more homers (15) and steals (20) this year than in his previous 281 games over his first two-plus seasons (13 homers, 18 steals).

All of the runs came in the first, which featured two doubles and two singles. Bibee ended up with a quality start anyway, striking out six, and got the victory to improve to 7-15 with a 4.36 ERA. Now the Guardians will have to decide whether to go with him or Foster Griffin as their third starter in the Wild Card. The White Sox fare a little better against lefties than righties, but Griffin has performed better in his two starts against the team this year than Bibee has in his two.

Wacha got the 5 2/3 innings he needed tonight to finish with 200 for the first time. He’ll be the only American Leaguer to reach that mark this year. Wacha’s previous high was 191 1/3 innings way back in 2015. That was one of just two times in his first 11 seasons that he qualified for the ERA title, but he’s done so three straight years now. Wacha did take the loss tonight, leaving him 9-10 with a 3.32 ERA. He fanned four to finish at 158 strikeouts. That ties his previous high from 2017.

Bailey his balls 342 and 380 feet for his first career two-homer game. He’s hit an adequate .231/.296/.396 with nine homers in 81 games since arriving from San Francisco in May. He was at .146/.213/.183 in 30 games when he was traded.

Caglianone is on a nice little surge to end the year, having collected 12 hits in his last six games. That he has 23 homers and 31 doubles this year isn’t much of a surprise, but his .287 average is extremely impressive. He came in at .157 in 62 games as a rookie. .157!
