Bubba Chandler allowed one run on no hits with four walks in 2/3 of an inning for Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday.
The fastball velocity was there, and there were no reports of an injury, so this was simply a bad start for Chandler. At some point, you have to wonder if the lack of promotion is impacting him mentally. After cruising through the early parts of the season and absolutely earning the right to pitch MLB innings, Chandler has struggled with his command of late. In his last seven starts, he has issued 19 walks and hit three batters in 26 innings. Chandler had just an 8.6 percent walk rate last season and didn’t have control issues at the start of the year, so it’s fair to wonder if the 22-year-old is either frustrated or is trying too hard to impress and force his promotion that he has begun over-throwing.
