Eder logged six innings out of the Angels’ bullpen on Wednesday, which unfortunately means that he wasn’t going to be available for at least a few days, so the Angels wanted to add a fresh arm to their bullpen to take his place. The 26-year-old southpaw holds a 4.91 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and a 15/9 K/BB ratio over 18 1/3 innings with the Halos this season.

Ohtani is eligible to return Wednesday, and it looks like that’ll be the day. He’s currently on the IL with knee and biceps injuries, but he was able to hit off a Trajekt machine and run the bases on the field Saturday.

Betts homered twice on Friday, and he has 10 hits in three days, raising his OPS from .738 to .785. That’s quite a boost this late in the season. He entered September at .701.

Skubal gave up eight hits, walked two and struck out three against a pretty awful lineup, but he got the dub anyway. It’s his first time allowing more than three runs in nine starts for the Dodgers. He’ll face the Giants again on Friday or Saturday.

The 22-year-old Marte has a 4.66 ERA in two starts and two relief appearances since being summoned to the majors on Aug. 29. He’ll likely face the Dodgers again next weekend.

Smith is hitting .250/.362/.521 with three homers in 16 games since coming off the IL on Sept. 1. He was catching a second straight game tonight, so if he plays Sunday, it figures to be as a DH. That seems more likely to happen if Kyle Tucker needs a day off due to his leg.

Bericoto hit balls 425 and 370 feet off Tarik Skubal tonight in his first start since returning from the IL. He’s probably going to play mostly against lefties over the final eight days, but he’s more interesting than some of the Giants’ current starters against righties.

Tucker left the game early, but it was hard to tell if that was the result of injury or because of the lopsided score. The foul ball ended up a little higher on his leg than it did when a similar incident led to a fractured shin in 2024.

That seems like the proper way to handle a player who was “woozy” a day after hitting his head. Brett Harris will likely start at first base again Sunday.

Wood took the blame after the game. It’s the second time in a week he’s had to deal with questions about his running, though the previous occasion was more of a mistake in judgment than a lack of hustle. Wood was 2-for-5 before exiting tonight.

That the Yankees were using Fulmer in the ninth demonstrates that they weren’t taking this one quite as seriously as the D-backs. Ildemaro Vargas walked to start the inning, and with one out, Smith hit the second pitch he saw 391 feet to right. He’s 5-for-15 with two homers and a double since being called up a week ago. The homer will probably get him back into the starting lineup against Will Warren on Sunday.
