Angels designated INF Kevin Newman for assignment.

The Angels needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster on Thursday for the acquisition of Oswald Peraza from the Yankees. Newman, 31, slashed a pitiful .202/.209/.272 with two homers, 11 RBI and one stolen base in 116 plate appearances with the Halos. It’s very unlikely that anyone is going to come calling on waivers, though Newman could ultimately refuse an outright assignment to Triple-A Salt Lake and choose to hit the open market.

Josh Naylor (wrist) is back in the lineup for Wednesday’s showdown against the Yankees.

Naylor returns to first base and will hit sixth following a one-game absence due to right wrist soreness. The 29-year-old has been a disappointment from an over-the-fence power and batting average standpoint, hitting just .263 with 10 homers across 474 plate appearances in 111 games. He’s managed to salvage his season from a fantasy perspective by tallying 23 stolen bases, putting him on pace for his second consecutive 30-steal campaign.

Blue Jays recalled RHP Jake Bloss from Triple-A Buffalo; placed him on the 60-day injured list.

Bloss was making his way back from Tommy John when he suffered a teres major injury last month. Apparently, it was a season ender. The move opens up a spot on the 40-man for Paul Sewald and gets Bloss a major league paycheck and service time for the next seven weeks.

Mariners claimed C Willie MacIver off waivers from the Blue Jays.

He’ll head to Triple-A Tacoma. MacIver, 29, spent part of last year as the Athletics’ backup catcher, hitting .186/.252/.324 in 32 games. His bat is generally considered better than his glove, which hasn’t helped his case for getting a fulltime backup gig. He was hitting .270/.344/.460 for Triple-A Buffalo this year.

Orioles acquired OF Harold Rivas from the Red Sox as the player to be named in the Adley Rutschman trade.

Rivas was originally reported by some as being in the deal, but then was left out when it was announced, suggesting that his inclusion might have been conditional on Rutschman’s return from the IL. Rivas was one of Boston’s top international signings in Jan. 2025. The 18-year-old center fielder hit .241/.343/.429 with six homers and 23 steals in 46 games in the Florida Complex League this year.

Brice Turang is not dealing with thumb soreness as previously reported.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy misspoke after Tuesday’s game and said that Turang was dealing with the ailment, but he misspoke, as Jackson Chourio is the player currently battling the thumb issue. While it’d be preferable if neither had an issue, it’s good news for Turang, who has been one of the best second baseman in baseball this year.

The Tigers are still evaluating Riley Greene’s right hamstring.

Greene’s status for Wednesday’s game against the Guardians — and potentially the contests after that — is still in doubt. The Tigers have added Corey Julks to the taxi squad as a potential replacement. Fantasy managers should be prepared for an absence, but his status should be updated well before the game.

Endy Rodriguez (hip) is not in the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Marlins.

Rodriguez is going to miss his fourth straight game — assuming he doesn’t enter off the bench — while dealing with left hip discomfort. Henry Davis will continue to work behind the plate while Rodriguez isn’t available.
