The 33-year-old hurler refused his outright assignment to Triple-A Toledo and will once again peddle his wares on the open market. Jackson made just three appearances with the Tigers, registering a 7.71 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and a 4/5 K/BB ratio over 4 2/3 innings of work. He’s still talented enough that he should have no problem finding another team hurting for quality bullpen depth that’s willing to take a chance on him.

Turang’s homer was his 20th and the double was his 35th. Now he just needs one more steal this weekend to get to 20 of those. Who would have thought a couple of years ago that the steals might cost him a 20/20 season? He had seven homers and 50 steals in 2024.

Henderson definitely wasn’t at his sharpest in finishing with three strikeouts and three walks. In fact, it’s the first time in 18 starts this year that he hadn’t have at least twice as many strikeouts as walks. His regular season ends with him 11-3 with 2.47 ERA and a 110/19 K/BB in 98 1/3 innings, and he figures to be the Brewers’ Game 2 starter in the NLDS.

Megill has matched his 2025 saves total. He joins Dan Plesac, John Axford, Francisco Rodríguez and Josh Hader in having recorded multiple 30-save seasons for the Brewers.

Nola struck out eight, but he gave up solo homers in the first and second and then two runs on a walk, a single and a double in the third. He retired 10 straight from there to end his outing. Nola closes out the regular season 7-11 with a 4.54 ERA, though that doesn’t demonstrate how solid he’s been lately. He had a 2.10 ERA in his previous 10 starts coming into tonight. This was the first time he’s allowed four runs since July 22.

Arraez hasn’t given the Phillies much of a lift with his .283/.314/.376 line in 45 games with the team, but what really matters is how he performs in October. He’s also still currently in line to win the NL batting title, though he dropped to .312 tonight. He hadn’t finished a game that low since May 14. Gabriel Moreno (.307) and Otto Lopez (.304) have the best chance of catching him.

That’s the same result from the first game. Encarnacion-Strand also singled and scored in that one, so he had one-third of the Orioles’ nine hits on the day. Given up on by the Reds, he has to be in the Orioles’ plans for 2027 with his .274/.324/.511 line, 11 homers and 39 RBI in 208 plate appearances.

It was going to be seven scoreless innings, but the Blue Jays challenged the final play of the seventh because second baseman Jeremiah Jackson’s heel was on the grass at the start of the play. That got Sean Keys awarded first base. Gibson had to return to the mound after going to the dugout, walked the next guy on four pitches and was lifted. Fortunately, Yennier Cano did strand the two runners. Gibson entered with a 7.36 ERA in seven starts and one relief appearance, but he got that down to 6.13 tonight. That has to make him feel better about things heading towards the offseason.

Davis Schneider homered after Sean Keys singled. Bautista’s five sinkers tonight averaged just 93.2 mph, down from 96.7 mph in his first appearance back on Sunday. His hardest pitch was 93.8 mph. It seemed likely that he’d pitch once more this weekend, but after tonight’s showing, that might not be in the cards.

The Orioles got to him quickly, collecting three of their four hits and runs in the first. Van Eyk, who made four relief appearances for the Blue Jays earlier in the year, was recalled before the game to start tonight. He might now be sent back down in exchange for a fresh arm.

Schneider also walked twice. He’s batting .150/.304/.325 with 27 walks and 18 hits in 149 plate appearances for the season. He’s probably in line to be cut this winter after spending quite a bit of the season in the minors, but there’s the chance he’ll bounce back and return to being useful against lefties.
