Royals acquired RHP Mason Black from the Giants for RHP Logan Martin.

There was some hope that Black, who was DFA’d Thursday, would turn into a mid-rotation starter a couple of years back, but he went just 1-5 with a 6.47 ERA in eight starts and two relief appearances with the Giants the last two seasons, and his formerly impressive minor league strikeout rates have really fallen off (29% in 2022, 30% in 2023, 24% in 2024, 21% in 2025). He has an option left and the Royals have ample starting pitching depth, so Black figures to open 2026 back in Triple-A.

Gavin Lux

Rays’ president of baseball operations Erik Neander told reporters on Friday that Gavin Lux is expected to play primarily at second base.

The 28-year-old saw most of his action with the Reds in left field or as a designated hitter in 2025 while playing a bit at second base and third base. It sounds like he’ll step in as the Rays’ regular second baseman, filling the void left by Brandon Lowe. Neander also noted that he’s fully confident in what Lux can provide both at the plate and in the field. Even if he’s slated for full-time action, it’s difficult to envision Lux having much fantasy value in 2026.

Ken Rosenthal and Matt Gelb of The Athletic report that the Phillies are close to re-signing catcher J.T. Realmuto.

Robert Murray of Fansided adds that it’ll be a three-year, $45 million deal with incentives that could run the total as high as $60 million. It always felt like a reunion with the Phillies made the most sense for the 34-year-old backstop, and now it looks like they’re close to pushing that deal across the finish line. Realmuto hit .257/.315/.384 with 12 homers, 52 RBI and eight stolen bases across 550 plate appearances in 2025 — his seventh season with the Phillies.

Cody Bolton

HOU Relief Pitcher #58

Astros signed RHP Cody Bolton to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The 27-year-old right-hander was released by the Guardians last June after giving up three runs on four hits over two innings in his lone appearance at the big league level. He’ll add bullpen depth for the Astros.

Brad Keller

PHI Relief Pitcher #40

Brad Keller has been added to Team USA for the World Baseball Classic.

Keller’s addition should round out the pitching staff, though it’s quite possible one or two guys will drop out before the tourney. Keller busted out with the Cubs in relief last season, posting a 2.07 ERA and a 75/22 K/BB in 69 2/3 innings. He signed a two-year, $22 million deal with the Phillies last month.

Michael Conforto

FA Left Fielder #23
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the White Sox have expressed interest in free agent outfielder Michael Conforto.

Conforto, 32, disappointed during his lone season with the Dodgers, slashing a meager .199/.305/.333 with 12 homers and 36 RBI in 486 plate appearances. Any chances of a potential return to the Dodgers were likely squashed on Thursday when they agreed to a mega deal with Kyle Tucker. He represents an affordable way for the White Sox to add some left-handed thump to the middle of their lineup.

Konnor Griffin

PIT Shortstop #85

Pirates invited SS Konnor Griffin, INF Duce Gourson, 2B Termarr Johnson, C Shawn Ross, C Omar Alfonzo, RHP Noah Davis and RHP Chris Devenski to spring training.

There hasn’t been any doubt, but now it’s official that Griffin will be at camp. Given the Pirates’ history, it seems unlikely that he’ll have much of a shot at winning the shortstop job prior to Opening Day, but he could well prove to be the best man for the job at age 19 (he turns 20 in April). Griffin hit .333/.415/.527 with 21 homers and 65 steals between high-A and Double-A last season, and he is widely regarded as the game’s No. 1 prospect.

Brock Burke

CIN Relief Pitcher #46

Reds acquired LHP Brock Burke from the Rays for INF Gavin Lux.

The 29-year-old southpaw moved from the Angels to the Rays and then to the Reds as part of a three-team deal that sent Josh Lowe to the Angels and Gavin Lux to the Rays. Burke was a key cog in the Halos’ bullpen in 2025, compiling a 3.36 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and a 52/18 K/BB ratio across 61 2/3 innings. He’ll add a valuable left-handed arm to the back end of the Reds’ bullpen.

Gavin Lux

Rays acquired INF Gavin Lux from the Reds for LHP Brock Burke.

The Rays nabbed Burke as part of the swap that sent Josh Lowe to the Angels on Friday, then they flipped the left-hander to the Reds to land Lux. The 28-year-old former top prospect hit .269/.350/.374 with just five homers, 53 RBI and one stolen base in 503 plate appearances during his lone season with the Reds. Expect his Rays to take full advantage of his versatility in 2026.

The 29-year-old southpaw didn’t even get to try on a uniform with the Rays as he was subsequently flipped to the Reds for Gavin Lux as part of the three-team swap on Friday.

Chris Clark

TB Starting Pitcher

Rays acquired RHP Chris Clark and LHP Brock Burke from the Angels for OF Josh Lowe.

Clark, 24, was a fifth-round selection by the Angels from the 2023 draft class. He made 28 appearances (26 starts) over three minor league levels in 2025, registering a 4.73 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and a 153/47 K/BB ratio. We have seen in the past where the Rays target unheralded minor league arms from other teams and they wind up playing a valuable role at the big league level, so don’t be surprised if we see Clark in Tampa Bay at some point during the 2026 season.
