The Red Sox have traded Luis Guerrero to the Rays, according to MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo.
The Rays didn’t like Guerrero enough to claim him off waivers last week, but now that he’s passed through waivers and is off the 40-man, they were interested. According to Cotillo, it’s not a cash deal and the Red Sox will get a player back.

Diamondbacks placed RHP Merrill Kelly on the 15-day injured list with left intercostal nerve irritation.
Kelly returned to pitch in a couple of spring games, most recently giving up five runs in two innings against the Guardians on Monday. He’ll make the first of probably two Triple-A starts on Apr. 3 before rejoining the Diamondbacks rotation in mid-April.
Rays say Pepiot injury not a cause for concern
Eric Samulski looks into Rays SP Ryan Pepiot's surprise issue with hip inflammation, but notes Tampa Bay says it's nothing to be concerned about.
  • AZ Left Fielder #12
Diamondbacks placed OF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. on the 10-day injured list following right ACL surgery.
Gurriel has made great progress since suffering his torn ACL on Sept. 1 and is already back DHing in minor league games. The Diamondbacks probably won’t activate him until they feel confident he can play the outfield a few times per week, but it’s possible he’ll be back before May 1.
  • AZ 1st Baseman #31
Diamondbacks placed 1B Tyler Locklear on the 10-day injured list following left elbow surgery.
Locklear avoids the 60-day IL for now, but he still might wind up there, as he’s not expected back from his arm surgeries until the second half of May or June. Once healthy, he’ll get a few weeks in Triple-A before the team decides whether or not to add him to the mix at first base and DH.
  • Diamondbacks placed C Adrian Del Castillo on the 10-day injured list with a strained left calf.
Del Castillo, who was injured at the very beginning of the spring, is now back DHing in minor league games. He’ll probably be activated and optioned to Triple-A in mid-April.
  • AZ Starting Pitcher #64
Diamondbacks placed RHP Christian Mena on the 60-day injured list with a strained right shoulder.
Mena originally strained his teres major muscle last June and then injured the area early on in spring training. He’ll probably miss at least the first couple of months before he resumes pitching in the minors, and it’d be a nice surprise for the Diamondbacks if he makes a significant contribution this year.
  • AZ Starting Pitcher #48
Diamondbacks placed LHP Blake Walston on the 60-day injured list following UCL surgery.
Walston underwent Tommy John surgery one year ago Thursday. The 24-year-old, who made his major league debut by posting a 4.42 ERA in 18 1/3 innings in 2024, might be a rotation candidate in the second half of the season.
  • AZ Relief Pitcher #43
Diamondbacks selected the contracts of RHP Jonathan Loáisiga, RHP Joe Ross and INF Ildemaro Vargas.
Loáisiga looked like one of Arizona’s best relievers this spring, and he should be a part of the eighth- or ninth-inning mix right away. If he can just stay healthy, he might wind up leading the team in saves. Still, we’re talking about a 31-year-old who has only once topped 50 innings in the majors. He hasn’t made more than 30 appearances since 2022.
  • AZ Relief Pitcher #92
Diamondbacks designated RHP Grant Holman for assignment.
Holman, who was claimed off waivers from the A’s in February, made just one appearance for the Diamondbacks this spring before being optioned out. He’ll go back on waivers now, and since he does have two options years left, there’s a decent chance he’ll be claimed.
  • NYM 3rd Baseman #2
Mets designated INF/OF Vidal Bruján for assignment.
The Mets claimed Bruján off waivers from the Twins in January, but he did not win a roster spot. That means Bo Bichette will serve as the backup shortstop this season, and Jared Young has made the team as a hitter off the bench.
  • TEX Right Fielder #4
Rangers selected the contract of OF Andrew McCutchen from Triple-A Round Rock.
Season No. 18 for McCutchen, who wound up 9-for-21 with a homer and six walks this spring. He did play left field a couple of times in Grapefruit action, but he’ll likely mostly be employed as a DH against lefties for now.
