Orioles designated 1B/OF Ryan Noda for assignment.
Noda was removed from Baltimore’s 40-man roster after the club made a pair of waiver claims earlier this week. The 29-year-old went 2-for-13 in seven games for the Orioles this past season.

Cardinals placed RHP Ryan Fernandez on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 3, with lower back pain.
Fernandez has pitched very well in his first seven appearances with the Cardinals, registering a 1.86 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and a 17/5 K/BB ratio across 9 2/3 innings. No word yet on how long he’ll be shelved for, but back injuries are notoriously tricky. Matt Svanson was recalled from Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move to take his spot in the Cardinals’ bullpen.

James Schiano discusses the improvement that Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong has made on offense in recent weeks, including the .455 batting average and 1.409 OPS he has posted in his last five games.
  • STL Left Fielder #25
Cardinals optioned INF/OF Thomas Saggese to Triple-A Memphis.
Saggese has really struggled with the bat in his limited time with the Cardinals this season, slashing a woeful .184/.244/.276 with just one homer and four RBI in 82 plate appearances. With Lars Nootbaar (heel) returning from the injured list on Friday, he was squeezed off of the active roster. He should get another opportunity with the big league club before the summer is through.
  • STL Left Fielder #21
Cardinals activated OF Lars Nootbaar from the 60-day injured list.
The 28-year-old outfielder missed the first 10 weeks of the season while recovering from offseason surgery on his heels. He finished up a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday and is finally ready to contribute for the Cardinals. He’ll start in left field and bat leadoff against Reds’ right-hander Brady Singer on Friday evening in St. Louis.
  • HOU Left Fielder #9
Astros optioned OF Zach Dezenzo to Triple-A Sugar Land.
With Jose Altuve returning from the injured list on Friday someone needed to get the boot from the Astros’ bench, and it appears as though Dezenzo drew the short straw this time around. Dezenzo has hit just .191 (9-for-47) with one homer, two RBI and a 19/4 K/BB ratio over 51 plate appearances in his time with the Astros this season.
  • HOU 2nd Baseman #27
Astros activated INF Jose Altuve from the 10-day injured list.
The 36-year-old makes his triumphant return to the Astros’ lineup on Friday after missing several weeks due to a strained oblique. On the season, he has slashed .245/.326/.380 with four homers, 12 RBI and just one stolen base through his first 185 plate appearances. He’s starting at second base and batting fifth for the Astros on Friday evening against the Athletics.
  • TEX 3rd Baseman #39
Rangers optioned INF Cody Freeman to Triple-A Round Rock.
Freeman was with the big league club for a couple of days while Sam Haggerty was on bereavement leave, but with Corey Seager returning from the injured list on Friday he became the odd man out. Freeman was 1-for-2 with a strikeout in his limited action with the Rangers this time around.
  • TEX Shortstop #5
Rangers activated SS Corey Seager from the 10-day injured list.
As anticipated, Seager rejoins the Rangers for Friday’s series opener against the Guardians. The 32-year-old infielder had been sidelined since May 18 due to inflammation in his back. He returns to a miserable .179/.286/.353 slash line with seven homers and 20 RBI through his first 182 plate apperances.
  • TEX Left Fielder #36
Rangers activated OF Wyatt Langford from the 10-day injured list.
The dynamic 24-year-old outfielder had been shelved since late April due to a forearm strain. Before landing on the injured list, Langford was hitting just .238/.274/.363 with one homer, four RBI, three stolen bases and a 19/4 K/BB ratio across 84 plate appearances in his first 20 games.
  • TEX Left Fielder #0
Rangers activated OF Sam Haggery from the bereavement list; designated him for assignment.
Haggerty returns from bereavement leave only to lose his spot on the Rangers’ 40-man roster following the return of Wyatt Langford. It’s possible that the versatile 32-year-old could slide through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as extra depth for the Rangers at Triple-A Round Rock.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #35
Red Sox transferred Garrett Crochet (shoulder, lat) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
Crochet has been on IL since April 29, so while there wasn’t a formal timetable on his return after a setback with a lat injury, he’ll be down until at least the end of June. A return after the All-Star break would be a sensible estimate for Crochet.
