The Royals and Lane Thomas are in agreement on a one-year, $5.25 million contract, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

Feinsand adds that the deal includes $1 million in performance-based incentives. Thomas heads to Kansas City following an injury plagued final season in Cleveland where he battled plantar fasciitis, which limited him to just 39 games, before undergoing foot surgery in late September. The 30-year-old outfielder should be a full-go in time for spring training and figures to take over as the club’s starting center fielder. He offers realistic 20-homer, 30-steal upside in an everyday role and projects as a strong bounce-back candidate for fantasy purposes, if he’s put the lingering foot issues to bed.

Teoscar Hernández is out of the lineup for Wednesday’s series finale against the Athletics.

Tommy Edman gets the nod in left field in his place. Hernández has gone 2-for-8 with an RBI in a pair of games since returning from the injured list earlier this week. The 33-year-old veteran slugger will likely need to produce in the next few months to keep his spot with Los Angeles moving forward since they have a couple talented outfield prospects nearing the majors including phenom Josue De Paula and on-base machine Mike Sirota. They also have James Tibbs III tearing the cover off the ball at Triple-A.

Willy Adames (back) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday’s series finale against the Diamondbacks.

Giants skipper Tony Vitello told reporters earlier this week that Adames was trending in the right direction and it sounds like there’s a chance he’ll be ready for Friday’s series opener against the Rockies at Coors Field. The 30-year-old is sitting out his third consecutive contest due to back spasms. It’ll be Christian Koss filling in at shortstop in his absence.

Giants recalled INF Christian Koss from Triple-A Sacramento.

Koss gets the call to join San Francisco’s injury-depleted infield mix with Matt Chapman finally requiring a trip to the injured list due to a lingering abdominal strain. The 28-year-old has gone 1-for-14 at the plate in the big leagues this season. He can be safely ignored in all fantasy leagues.

Giants placed 3B Matt Chapman on the 10-day injured list with an abdominal strain.

Chapman receives some time off to rest and recover after playing through an abdominal issue since April. The 33-year-old defensive stalwart has hit .235/.324/.368 with seven homers and 42 RBI across 352 plate appearances through 84 games. He figures to be on the move to a contender ahead of next month’s trade deadline.

Pirates recalled RHP Cam Sanders from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Sanders provides Pittsburgh with a fresh bullpen arm heading into Wednesday’s affair against the Phillies. The 29-year-old has allowed six runs over six innings at the highest level this season. He’ll operate in low-leverage spots.

Pirates optioned RHP Brandan Bidois to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Bidois was hit hard by the Phillies in his last outing and holds a lackluster 6.32 ERA, 1.98 WHIP and 20/12 K/BB ratio across 15 2/3 innings during his first taste of the big leagues.

Mick Abel underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow on Wednesday.

Abel remains without a definitive return timetable but it sounds like there’s a chance he makes it back before the end of the season. There should be an update on his next steps and timeline in the coming weeks.

Jacob Misiorowski is tentatively scheduled to make three additional starts before the All-Star break.

Misiorowski is in line to take the ball for Milwaukee’s first-half finale, which would ostensibly eliminate any chance of him pitching in the Midsummer Classic. The hard-throwing 24-year-old rising star was among the favorites to start the All-Star Game along with Dodgers icon Shohei Ohtani and Phillies ace Cristopher Sánchez.

Yankees optioned RHP Yovanny Cruz to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Cruz returns to the minors after tossing a pair of scoreless innings during Tuesday’s loss to the Tigers. The 26-year-old has put up some impressive numbers at the Triple-A level and has reeled off 4 1/3 shutout frames with the Yankees. He’ll be back in a couple weeks.

Kevin McGonigle went 1-for-5 with a home run and two runs scored as the Tigers defeated the Yankees 6-2 in 11 innings on Wednesday.

McGonigle’s homer was a 422-foot blast that cleared the bullpens in right-center field. If there’s been anything to complain about with him from a fantasy perspective this year, it has been the absence of a power ceiling, as Wednesday’s homer was his seventh. Fantasy managers will surely take the rest of what he has provided, and with a player of his prospect pedigree, it’s only a matter of time until his power stroke takes hold. McGonigle entered the day with 3.4 fWAR, leading all rookie hitters.
