Mets signed OF Christian Pache to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training

The Mets are in the market for a centerfielder, but it’s unlikely to be Pache. The 27-year-old was a former top prospect, but he has not played major league games since 2024. He is still a plus defender at all three outfield positions, but he spent all of last year at Triple-A in the Diamondbacks organization, slashing .251/.351/.389 with five home runs and 25 RBI in 70 games for the Reno Aces.

Marlins recalled INF Graham Pauley from Triple-A Jacksonville.

He’ll take the place of the recently demoted Connor Norby on the Marlins’ active roster. The 25-year-old has struggled during his time with the big league club this season, slashing .165/.211/.271 with just one homer and nine RBI in 91 plate appearances. He can continue to be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Nick Solak has elected free agency.

The 31-year-old opted to refuse his outright assignment to Triple-A El Paso and will instead explore opportunities on the open market. Solak went just 1-for-7 with one RBI during his four-game stint with the Padres.

Tigers transferred OF Wenceel Pérez to the 60-day injured list.

Perez is shelved with a left orbital fracture that he sustained when he was struck in the face by a plyometric band in the training room. It’s now clear that he’s going to be out for an extended period of time as he won’t even be eligible to return until the end of August. This was done as a procedural move to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Yilber Diaz on Friday.

Tigers claimed RHP Yilber Díaz off waivers from the Diamondbacks; optioned him to Triple-A Toledo.

The 25-year-old right-hander had been designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Sunday. He’ll add extra bullpen depth for the Tigers, and it shouldn’t take him long to earn an opportunity with the big league club if he pitches well at the Triple-A level.

Randy Arozarena is leading off for the Mariners for the first time this season Friday.

J.P. Crawford has been dropped to sixth. The Mariners are facing a left-hander in Joey Cantillo tonight, so this might not be a full-time change. The Mariners have had big problems with lefties this season, and though Arozarena is a righty, he, like most of the rest of the team, has performed better against righties this year (.828 OPS to .738). Arozarena spent a chunk of last season as a leadoff man, but he was dropped to the middle of the order this year with newcomer Brandon Donovan expected to leadoff regularly.

The Twins have Luke Keaschall in right field and Kody Clemens at second base Friday against the Rockies.

It’s Keaschall’s first start in the outfield as a major leaguer. He started 19 games, all of them in center, in the outfield in the minors. The Twins are tired of watching him struggle at second base, so this could be a full-time switch. The one problem there for the long haul is that the Twins have a terrific group of outfield prospects, led by Walker Jenkins, Emmanuel Rodriguez and Gabriel Gonzalez, on the way, which might eventually crowd Keaschall out.

Royals placed RHP Stephen Kolek on the paternity list.

Kolek was supposed to face the White Sox tonight, but Steven Cruz will open in his place and Mitch Spence, who was called up in his place, will likely get bulk innings. The Royals haven’t indicated whether Kolek might return in time to pitch this weekend.

Royals recalled RHP Mitch Spence from Triple-A Omaha.

Spence has given up six runs over four innings in both of his appearances for the Royals this season, first in a relief outing against the Nationals in April and later in a start against the Yankees last week. He’ll likely throw a few innings tonight against the White Sox and then return to Triple-A.

Jackson Holliday is back in the Orioles lineup Friday following a four-game absence due to groin tightness.

Holliday is playing second base and batting eighth against the Nationals and lefty Andrew Alvarez. This makes 10 times the Orioles have faced lefties since Holliday returned from the IL (not counting Tuesday, when he was hurt). He’s started five of those games and sat five times.

CJ Abrams is starting at shortstop and batting fourth Friday against the Orioles.

Abrams started Wednesday, but he missed games Tuesday and Thursday because of tightness in his left side.
