Randy Vásquez struggled during Monday’s Cactus League loss to the Rangers, surrendering two runs on three hits over his four innings of work.
The 27-year-old right-hander also issued a pair of walks on the afternoon while striking out two. The damage done against him all came in the second inning as Willie MacIver delivered an RBI single and Brandon Nimmo followed with a run-scoring triple. Vásquez generated five swings and misses on 63 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 24 percent. For the spring, he now holds a 2.08 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and a 7/5 K/BB ratio over 8 2/3 innings in Cactus League play. His velocity remained steady in this one as well, sitting 96.1 mph (+2.6 mph) with his fastball. He’s still fighting to secure one of the final spots in the Padres’ Opening Day rotation.
