Orioles designate INF Bryan Ramos for assignment.

The Orioles have claimed Ramos off waivers twice this offseason, but he was not able to make the team as a backup infielder. If he clears waivers, he could report to Triple-A.

Cubs’ skipper Craig Counsell told reporters on Saturday that the MRI on the injured elbow of right-hander Daniel Palencia revealed only a minor flexor strain.

That’s about the best possible news that the Cubs and fantasy managers could have received here. The expectation is that he’ll be shut down from throwing for about a week before starting to ramp back up. The Cubs will likely patch together the ninth inning in the meantime.

Nathan Eovaldi was scratched from his scheduled start against the Padres on Saturday due to left knee soreness.

The Rangers are calling the issue minor and it doesn’t sound like there are any immediate plans to place Eovaldi on the injured list. MacKenzie Gore, who had been scheduled to start on Sunday, will pitch on Saturday in Eovaldi’s place. The 36-year-old right-hander is considered day-to-day.

Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone told reporters on Saturday that Austin Wells (neck) is expected to be activated from the injured list on Sunday.

Wells, who has been sidelined since early June due to cervical headaches, has been playing in minor league rehab games at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since Tuesday. Expect Ali Sanchez to return to Triple-A upon Wells’ return on Sunday.

Eugenio Suárez is not in the Reds’ starting lineup for Saturday’s contest against the Yankees.

The 34-year-old slugger will get a breather on Saturday with right-hander Will Warren toeing the slab for the Yankees. Nathaniel Lowe will serve as the team’s designated hitter and bat cleanup while Sal Stewart covers third base for the Reds.

Colt Keith is not in the Tigers’ starting lineup for Saturday afternoon’s skirmish against the White Sox.

With left-hander Sean Newcomb toeing the slab for the White Sox, Keith will have to wait to make his entrance into the ballgame until the Pale Hose go to the bullpen. Zach McKinstry will start at shortstop and bat ninth while Kevin McGonigle slides over to cover the hot corner.

Chase Meidroth is not in the White Sox’ starting lineup for Saturday afternoon’s battle against the Tigers at Comerica Park.

It appears to be nothing more than a routine day of rest for the 24-year-old second baseman. Sam Antonacci will move into the infield and start at second base while Randal Grichuk makes a rare start against a right-hander and will bat fifth for the White Sox against Troy Melton and the Tigers.

Danny Young (elbow) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with the Braves’ Florida Complex League affiliate on Saturday.

The 32-year-old southpaw is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and is going to require a lengthy rehab stint before he’s an option to help out the Braves. Young holds a 4.01 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and a 78/25 K/BB ratio over 60 2/3 innings in his MLB career.

Ron Marinaccio will be available out of the Padres’ bullpen on Saturday after serving his two-game suspension for throwing at Gunnar Henderson last weekend.

The Padres were forced to play a man down in their bullpen over the past two games while Marinaccio did his time. The 30-year-old right-hander holds a 3.82 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and a 32/11 K/BB ratio across 37 2/3 innings in 25 appearances for the Padres this season.

Max Fried (elbow) threw 28 pitches during a successful bullpen session on Friday.

Yankees’ pitching coach Matt Blake told reporters on Friday that Fried will face live hitters at some point within the next couple of weeks as he continues his progression. After that, he’s likely to require at least one minor league tune-up before he’s ready to rejoin the Yankees’ rotation. Fantasy managers should expect the 32-year-old southpaw back at some point around the All-Star break.

Independent journalist Francys Romero reports that the Blue Jays plan to activate Lazaro Estrada from the 60-day injured list prior to Saturday’s game.

The Jays already have a couple of openings on their 40-man roster, so all they’ll have to do is clear a spot in the bullpen for Estrada’s return. The 27-year-old hurler has been shelved since April 5 due to a right shoulder impingement. Before being sidelined, he made just one appearance for the Jays, striking out three batters over four scoreless frames.
