Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts confirmed that closer Edwin Díaz was unavailable for Saturday’s game against the Rangers and that the club is monitoring the right-hander’s velocity.

Díaz has exhibited decreased velocity early in the season — including while giving up three runs in a blown save against the Rangers on Friday night. They’ll see how he’s feeling on Sunday before making a determination on his status, but it’s possible that the club ends up taking an extremely cautious approach and sits him down for a while to make sure that he gets right. Alex Vesia picked up a save in his absence on Saturday.

Joe Musgrove will make his next minor league rehab start on Sunday at Triple-A El Paso.

The 33-year-old right-hander continues to progress in his recovery from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery. He threw 39 pitches his last time out at Single-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday, so anticipate him throwing around 50-60 pitches this time out. Barring any setbacks, he could be ready to join the Padres’ rotation at the end of August.
