These rankings were compiled using a weighted formula based on my top-500 pre-draft rankings, with quality outweighing depth of class. Here’s my list of the top available UDFAs in this year’s class from top to bottom, not broken up by teams.
Note: Some teams were far less aggressive in this year’s UDFA sweepstakes due to AAF signings (the Panthers being the biggest example). AAF signings were not factored into these rankings.

Huge haul, here: Ozigbo, Granderson and Hansen are all guys who are easy to picture contributing in the NFL. Each should have been drafted.

Nobody would have batted an eye if Calhoun, Williams and Hanks had been taken anytime from mid-Round 5 on. Any of the three could provide the Fins value down the road.

Fields got pushed out of the draft because he’s slow and small, but the kid can play. Has NFL slot ability. James Williams was such a perfect fit for a pass-happy Air Raid-lite pro team like the Chiefs -- superb receiving back for Mike Leach at Wazzu.
4. Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks scored points for bringing in Thomas -- a guy who absolutely should have been drafted on his insane measurables alone -- and for accruing depth. If there were ever a UDFA corner literally built for Seattle, it’s Thomas. He’s got the length, he’s got the athleticism -- they’re just going to have to teach him the rest of it.

Roemer fell out of the draft because of off-field concerns, Coney did because of athletic testing, Doss reportedly did because of an injury, and Ingold did because of the position he plays -- but each has the skill to hang long-term in the NFL.

Hall reportedly fell out of the draft because of personality issues, but he’s a world-class athlete you bring in to see if he can keep his head screwed on straight. Bars is an awesome flier -- if he hadn’t gotten hurt last year, he may have been drafted in the middle rounds.

Really like the offensive line signings. And White and Dungey were both back-of-the-draft guys that I thought were worth developing on practice squads.
8. Philadelphia Eagles

| 494 | Casey Tucker | OT45 | 6'5 | 313 | Toby Weathersby | 13.4 | 4.67 |
The Eagles swooped up three draftable guards -- I predict they’ll find at least one in the group who’ll hang (and they may get two). Edwards was worth a shot on college play alone. Note: The Eagles signed and then in short-order waived Temple S Dalvon Randall, who previously appeared on this list. So much for brotherly love!

My favorite flier here is my beloved Kansas Jayhawk Daniel Wise. Super underrated player who got ganged up on in college because his supporting cast stunk. Wise’s father played in the NFL, and his brother currently does. Interesting 3-tech prospect if he can add a little weight.
10. Tampa Bay Bucs

How in the heck did Anthony Johnson go undrafted? The NFL didn’t consider the full extent of the circumstances he played under last year, in my opinion. I thought he and Michael Gallup were close to analogs in 2017. If Johnson gets back to that level, he’s gonna hang for awhile. For me, he’s a mid-round pick for the price of free.

Huggins would have been drafted if Christian Wilkins had declared for the draft after the 2017 season, as expected. Higdon is on the five-player short-list for the “Phillip Lindsay of the 2019 class.” Also loved the fliers on Lewis and Davis, two athletic players who flashed havoc-wreaking chops in college. A week removed from the draft, and I still can’t figure out how Stanley Morgan went undrafted. If you want my leading candidate for this year’s UDFA skill guy that ends up starting more than 30 games in the NFL, he’s the guy. Should be a really good NFL backup, if nothing else.

I thought Hitner’s showing in athletic tests might get him drafted. He offers future swing versatility if he makes the practice squad and develops any. Keenen Brown is a guy Sean McVay can potentially find use for, and Boogie Roberts was a bit underrated because of the way San Jose State (mis)used him as a 0-tech nose tackle. I see a Quad-A three-tech tweener.

Penny Hart!!! No college football fan will be surprised if he catches 60 balls from Andrew Luck in 2020. I’m just telling you.

Outside of Stanley Morgan, Nijman was my other “why in the (expletive) didn’t this prospect get drafted?!” guy. On measurables alone, he’s worth a fifth- or sixth-round flier. 6'7/324 tackles that move like that don’t grow on trees, ya know.

| 431 | Khari Blasingame | RB36 | 6'0 | 232 | John Kelly | 96.6 | 9.73 |
The Vikings hilariously gave Jake Browning the highest UDFA signing bonus in NFL history after taking a long-snapper late in Round 7 (Twin Cities reporter Darren Wolfson postulated after the draft that that suspicious one-two step was likely a favor to Browning’s agent -- Browning signed for more as a UDFA than he would have gotten had he been picked in the back-half of the seventh round).
I think Keenoy (a MAC standout and prolific #grinder who is moving to the same town as his former coach, now-Minnesota HC PJ Fleck) and Blasingame (who flashed in analytics models to do his receiving rate stats and size/athleticism combination) are probably better players. (Even though Browning is the heavy favorite of the three to stick around the longest because of his contract).
Myself and popular Minneapolis podcaster Andy Carlson have started a “turn Blasingame into Larry Centers” movement around town. Blasingame is only two inches shorter and 10 pounds lighter than second-round “TE” Irv Smith. And Vikings fans, here’s a sobering thought: Blasingame tested better than Smith in literally every single metric, the forty (4.55 to 4.63), the 20-yard split (2.61 to 2.74), the 10-yard split (1.52 to 1.68), the short shuttle (4.18 to 4.33), the 3-cone (6.94 to 7.32), the bench (20 to 19), the vertical jump (38.5 to 32.5) and the broad jump (10.92 to 9.17). Fun!

| 256 | Elijah Holyfield | RB20 | 5'10 | 217 | Matt Asiata | 2.8 | 2.56 |
The Panthers mostly sat on their hands during the UDFA process because of all the AAF guys they signed. Holyfield could turn into a short-yardage banger. It would be fun to see him hang up the cleats and try to cut to 185 to become a UFC middleweight. We need a Holyfield back in the fight game more than Carolina needs a practice squad scrapper.
