Making his tournament debut, PGA TOUR rookie and World No. 474 Joey Garber painted a 7-under-par 33-32=65 in the third round of the opposite-field Puerto Rico Open for a 54-hole tally of 9-under 207, up 24 spots on the live leaderboard to T3 and good for a share of the clubhouse lead with Martin Piller. UPDATE: With R3 complete, Garber is T4, three back of leader Aaron Baddeley.
The 27-year-old, who checked in off back-to-back missed cuts, is three back of the leader on the course Aaron Baddeley, who’s playing the 17th. His 65 is tied for the low round of the day (and week) thus far with Boo Weekley. On just one (of 14) fairways, most of those misses in the intermediate rough, the Georgia alum pelted 16 greens in regulation. He squared a lone bogey-5 at hole 4, outflanked by eight birdies at 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 12, 15 and 16, recording 1.500 putts per GIR with 27 total putts. This is the Michigan native’s 14th career start, eighth as a member, with one top 25, a T13 at the 2016 Barracuda.
