Week of March 14-20
Great Options
Sergei Bobrovsky - Florida Panthers: Bobrovsky is having a great month of March so far. He is currently riding a four-game win streak and has collected some good individual numbers during that stretch. He earned a shutout back on March 3rd against the Ottawa Senators. Bobrovsky also made 34 saves on 37 shots to earn a win over the Philadelphia Flyers in his last outing on March 10th. He posted some mediocre performances through the first two months of 2022, so this recent positive momentum is a welcomed change for the 33-year-old. He has a record of 30-6-3, along with a GAA of 2.57 and a save percentage of .917. This next week the Panthers will play the San Jose Sharks, Vegas Golden Knights and Anaheim Ducks.
Juuse Saros - Nashville Predators: Saros went from having a strong fall to having a rough February. It seems as though he has shaken off that February slump, as Saros is now on a three-game win streak. He earned a 20-save shutout against the San Jose Sharks on March 5th. After that, Saros allowed just one goal in each of his next two starts. Saros currently has a record of 28-17-3. Through 48 appearances he has accumulated a save percentage of .925 and a GAA of 2.38. This upcoming week the Predators have contests against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers and Toronto Maple Leafs.
Scott Wedgewood - Arizona Coyotes: There is no question that Arizona has been the most surprising team in the league since the start of March. The Coyotes have earned victories in their past four contests, some of which came against very difficult opponents. Wedgewood himself has three wins in his past four starts. His individual numbers have not been the greatest, but he has managed to end up in the win column regardless. He helped deliver the Toronto Maple Leafs an upset in his last game on March 10th. During that matchup he allowed four goals on 38 shots. If there is ever a time to capitalize on Arizona’s momentum it is right now. Wedgewood cannot be discounted in a daily fantasy situation if he gets the start. The 29-year-old has a record of 9-13-3. His save percentage sits at .906 and his GAA is at 3.17.
Karel Vejmelka - Arizona Coyotes: Arizona’s current success is also shared by Vejmelka. He has posted even better numbers than Scott Wedgewood in his outings during the Coyotes’ win streak. Vejmelka had a particularly impressive game on March 3rd against the Colorado Avalanche. During that matchup he allowed just one goal on 43 shots to post a .977 save percentage and helped his team come out with an upset victory. He also had a good showing in his last start against the Detroit Red Wings on March 8th, during which he made 26 saves on 28 shots. Vejmelka has a record of 9-21-1, along with a save percentage of .904 and a GAA of 3.38. The Coyotes have a busy week ahead of them, as they will play the Ottawa Senators, Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins, and San Jose Sharks. With the way they have been playing recently Arizona has a decent chance to win at least three out of those four matchups. Thus, the team’s netminders have to be at the forefront of conversations this week.
Good Options
Darcy Kuemper - Colorado Avalanche: Kuemper falls to the good column not as a result of his individual numbers alone, but because he struggled to find the win column this past week. The Colorado Avalanche evidently have a talented roster, so Kuemper has plenty of opportunity to post stellar performances. However, he has had some underwhelming showings since the beginning of March. On March 5th he allowed three goals on 15 shots in just over 21 minutes of play against the Calgary Flames. Later on March 8th, he allowed the struggling New Jersey Devils to get past him four times in a loss. Kuemper has a record of 27-8-2, along with a save percentage of .919 and a GAA of 2.54. This week the Avalanche will play the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday and the San Jose Sharks on Friday. The game against San Jose will be a great opportunity for Kuemper to heavily boost his numbers.
Vitek Vanecek - Washington Capitals: Vanecek is currently riding a four-game win streak. He falls to the good column because his individual numbers in his past two starts were not the greatest. In his last game against the Vancouver Canucks on Friday, Vanecek allowed three goals in just over four minutes and ended his night with a save percentage of .885. However, back on March 3rd he picked up an impressive 36-save shutout against the Carolina Hurricanes. Since he is still managing to find the win column, even if his individual stats are not stellar, Vanecek is very much worth rolling the dice on. He has a record of 14-7-5. His save percentage sits at .918 and he has a GAA of 2.35. Washington has a week full of Metropolitan matchups ahead of them, as they will play the New York Islanders, Columbus Blue Jackets and Carolina Hurricanes before ending their week by facing off against the Dallas Stars on Sunday.
Bad Options
Andrei Vasilevskiy - Tampa Bay Lightning: To say that Vasilevskiy has been having a tough March would be an understatement. He has just one win in his past four outings and has gone those four games without cracking a .900 save percentage. Vasilevskiy has also allowed at least four goals in those aforementioned three losses. He is in the midst of a slump right now and it is unclear when he will revert back to the elite performance that is expected from him. The Lightning have just two games this next week, one against the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday and the other against the New York Rangers on Saturday. The matchup against Seattle will be a good opportunity for Vasilevskiy to finally turn things around before he faces a difficult opponent in the Rangers to close out the week.
John Gibson - Anaheim Ducks: Gibson has just two wins in his past 10 starts. He posted a particularly concerning performance against the Chicago Blackhawks on March 8th. During that game, Gibson allowed five goals on just 13 shots. He was pulled after one period. Gibson has only posted a single-game save percentage above .900 once in his past nine appearances. It is evident that he is going through a rough patch and for now he is a goaltender to avoid. Gibson’s record sits at 17-17-8. Through 42 total outings he has accumulated a save percentage of .907 and a GAA of 3.00. This week the Ducks have two contests, as they play the New York Rangers on Tuesday and Florida Panthers on Friday. Both of these will be difficult matchups for Anaheim and Gibson’s slump will not help their odds.
