Welcome to AM’s Perfect XI column. It’s great to be back on the Rotoworld team after taking a break in 2015/16, and a fresh start means a fresh format. My focus for the upcoming season will be Togga’s Perfect XI fantasy game, which debuted last year and was enjoyed by all who played it - particularly those of us who held affection for the now-extinct Yahoo Fantasy Premier League game.
Perfect XI is mobile only this season, so you’ll need to download / update the Togga app on your IOS or Android device. Find the app here: https://www.playtogga.com
The format for Perfect XI could not be simpler. The competition runs over the course of the season as per your standard fantasy format but you begin each gameweek with a blank team, leaving you free to pick your “Perfect XI” for the upcoming round of Premier League fixtures. The key thing to note is that there are NO PLAYER VALUES and NO TRANSFER BUDGET - you choose the 11 players you feel will perform best that weekend. You are not constrained by money and there is no limit to the number of players you can pick from one club, but your selections must fit a 4-4-2 formation.

The Togga scoring system values a player’s real-life contributions in all areas of the game. Obviously you’ll pick up points for goals scored, assists, saves and clean sheets but also for additional vital Opta statistics such as key passes, successful dribbles, tackles, aerial duels won and clearances. For your reference the scoring chart can be seen below:
The unlimited transfers and complex scoring system enables Perfect XI to provide a genuinely different, exciting and immersive experience so I encourage all our readers to give it a go for the approaching campaign: https://www.playtogga.com
As is tradition we have set up a Rotoworld PL Private League where you can challenge myself and the rest of the RW PL team over the course of the season. To join it download the app and then click the below link from your device, or find us from the Featured Leagues tab:
Each week I will be providing a Perfect XI of my own for the upcoming gameweek, recommending 11 players to consider along with some honourable mentions. Now I must be clear that the players listed won’t necessarily be the exact 11 selected for my own Perfect XI fantasy side (that would be plain boring). The point of this column isn’t to tell you exactly who to pick; it’s to present some ideas and get your brain whirring.
Last season the unlimited transfer / no budget led the majority of us to approach Perfect XI by simply selecting the same big names each week regardless of their match-up. While this will work on occasions it soon became obvious this wasn’t a long-term winning strategy - you need to do some analysis on a weekly basis and think outside-the-box with your picks to gain an edge over your fellow fantasy managers. For that reason I’ll be listing a combination of the must-haves and slightly riskier options, alongside the odd hunch. Hopefully you’ll find this useful whether you’re playing Togga’s game or looking at potential transfers for your official Fantasy Premier League team.
The Week 1 picks with be posted this coming Friday morning. If you have any questions please feel free to comment below. Good luck for the new season!
