The Lakers have waived Frank Mason, the team announced Thursday.
Mason agreed to a training camp deal with the Lakers just over a week ago, and he did not see any game action during the preseason. It’s possible that Mason will join the team’s G League affiliate, once he clears waivers.

Free-agent guard Frank Mason is signing a training camp deal with the Los Angeles Lakers according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Mason suited up for Orlando for four games last season, making one start and averaging 6.3 points, 3.0 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game. It is a long shot at this moment that Mason makes the Lakers roster, or any other roster at this time, but even if he were to make the cut, he is nowhere near a fantasy target.

Frank Mason (groin) has been waived by the Magic.
Orlando is in dire straights with their point guard situation, so they can’t afford to wait for Mason to recover from the groin injury. He will be cut in order to bring on Chasson Randle, but once he recovers, Mason should be able to snag a minimum-level deal elsewhere.

Frank Mason (right groin strain) has been ruled out for Sunday’s game vs. Phoenix.
Mason injured his groin on Thursday and was unable to play on Friday, which resulted in Michael Carter-Williams logging 27 minutes as a starter while posting a line of 21 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and one triple with Cole Anthony (shoulder) also on the sidelines. Anthony is being listed as questionable for Sunday, so if he’s forced to join Mason on the sidelines tomorrow night, MCW will make for a quality streamer. Stay tuned.

Frank Mason (right groin) will not play on Friday vs. the Kings.
Evan Fournier (back) and Cole Anthony (shoulder) remain questionable, and Michael Carter-Williams will only see limited minutes if he’s cleared. Mason was on the streaming radar as the only healthy PG entering Thursday’s game but is now irrelevant again in fantasy.

Frank Mason has a strained right groin and will not return on Thursday vs. the Warriors.
Orlando’s luck can not get any worse. He was the lone PG left on the active roster, so now the Magic will have to turn to Dwayne Bacon to cook something up on offense.

Cole Anthony (shoulder) and Michael Carter-Williams (foot) have been ruled out for Thursday’s game vs. the Pacers.
Orlando will be without their starting point guard and his backup tonight, so Frank Mason could be getting heavy minutes as a starter tonight, and he’s someone to think about as a dice roll in DFS. The Magic play again on Friday in Sacramento, and for now, we’ll be considering Anthony and MCW questionable for that one.

  • Michael Carter-Williams (sprained left foot) is now listed as questionable for Thursday’s game vs. Golden State.
Carter-Williams, who was originally listed as out, has not appeared in a game since January 4. So even if he’s cleared to play, it’s likely that the veteran guard will be under a minutes restriction of some sort. Orlando has been hit hard by injuries at the point guard position, as Markelle Fultz (torn ACL) is out for the year and Cole Anthony (right shoulder) is listed as questionable for Thursday’s game. Should Carter-Williams and Anthony be cleared to play, Frank Mason would lose out on playing time.

Frank Mason started the second half of the Tuesday night Magic-Blazers game after Cole Anthony suffered a right shoulder strain.
The Magic are running out of point guards. With Markelle Fultz out for the year and Michael Carter-Williams sidelined, Cole Anthony’s injury left Frank Mason as the lone true guard. Mason ran 33 minutes on Tuesday, scoring 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting (one 3-pointer) with seven rebounds, four assists, and three turnovers. The two-way player is far from reliable, but if Anthony is out for any length of time, Mason will have to play 30+ minutes per game. For his four-year career, Mason is averaging 6.8 points, 2.7 assists, 2.0 rebounds, and 0.5 made 3-pointers in 15.6 minutes.

Cole Anthony (right shoulder strain) will not return to Tuesday’s game vs. the Trail Blazers.
Anthony injured his shoulder during the second quarter, and after the halftime break it was announced that he would not return. Frank Mason, who was signed by the Magic last week, started the second half at the point. Anthony played 14 minutes, finishing with four points (2-of-7 FGs) and four rebounds.
