British Open Increases Purse by One Third

The British Open has announced a one third increase in its total purse. The prize fund will rise to $4.95 million with every player surviving the cut making at least $12,000.

The champions’ share will jump 20 percent to $900,000.

Royal Lytham will host the event July 19-22. When the championship was last played at this venue five years ago, winner Tom Lehman received $300,000 of a $2.1 million purse.
