TOMAKOMAI, Japan (AP) -- American Todd Hamilton defeated Toru Taniguchi and Hirofumi Miyase on Saturday to advance to the finals of the Japan PGA Matchplay Championship.
Hamilton, the leading money winner on the Japanese tour this season, will face David Smail of New Zealand on Sunday.
Hamilton defeated Taniguchi 5 and 3, then posted a 1-up victory over Miyase in the semifinals.
Smail beat Hiroyuki Fujita 2 and 1 in the third round before defeating Tetsuji Hiratsuka 4 and 3.
The Japan PGA Matchplay Championship features a field selected on the basis of money rankings.
