AK in shape for Augusta

Tiger Woods has been the hot topic on many minds during most of 2010, despite (and in part because) he’s not teed it up.

Absent from the media’s affections most of this season has been Woods’ fellow Nike staffer Anthony Kim, even though he’s making his sixth start of the year on the PGA Tour. The 24-year-old Kim finished runner-up to fellow young gun Camilo Villegas at the Honda Classic , the highlight of his solid 2010 season.

But we haven’t seen much of the flashy two-time champion whose belt buckles have shimmered in the limelight during the last two years. And that may be OK with AK as he looks to be rounding into form just in time for the Masters (where he set a Masters record of 11 birdies in a round during Day 2 last year in his debut).

At the halfway point of the Shell Houston Open, Kim is 7 under par and tied for fourth. And while the rest of the world will likely continue to be focused on Woods’ return next week, don’t be surprised if Kim continues to slide under the radar and make even more birdies.
