CROMWELL, Conn. – There is an ebb and flow to Ken Duke’s career that doesn’t take a statistician to unravel. As a general rule, he plays well on weeks after he’s worked with legendary swing coach Bob Toski.
Little surprise then that Duke, who spent last week in South Florida working with Toski, made his move up the leaderboard on Saturday at the Travelers Championship.
Duke carded a third-round 65 to move into the hunt at TPC River Highlands thanks to nearly flawless ballstriking – he’s missed just one fairway in his last 36 holes.
“How can you not (play well) after working with Bob. The guy is a legend,” said Duke who is at 8 under. “He always tells me something different, that’s the beauty of what he does.”
Duke had been slowed this season by tendinitis in his right elbow, but got a boost last month during the Byron Nelson Championship when he received a cortisone shot to ease the pain.
“I was scared (to get the cortisone shot),” he said. “I didn’t know how it would feel, but once I did it was fine.”
