Seniors go back-to-back majors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Co. ' The Champions Tour continues its’ run of three consecutive major championships with the U.S. Senior Open.

Last week, Bruce Vaughan downed John Cook for a playoff win at the Senior British Open. That was his first major title and joined Jay Haas as a major champions this year. Haas claimed the Senior PGA earlier this season.

After taking a week off, the Champions Tour will play its third consecutive major, the JELD- WEN Tradition. The final major, the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship, will be played in October.

Last year, Brad Bryant claimed his first career major as he closed with a four-under 68 to beat Ben Crenshaw by three strokes and Loren Roberts by four shots.

The win for Bryant was made possible by an untimely collapse for Tom Watson. Watson reached nine-under for the championship with a birdie on the 10th, but coughed up six strokes over the next five holes. He eventually finished five shots behind Bryant.

The Broadmoor will host its sixth USGA championship this week. The last USGA event was the 1995 U.S. Women’s Open, where Annika Sorenstam won on the East Course. This week’s host course, the South Course, hosted the 1982 U.S. Women’s Amateur, which was won by Juli Inkster.
