Kaymer reunites with caddie Connelly

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Caddie changes are nothing new in professional golf. Among the bag-toting ranks there is an adage that says there are two kinds of caddies, those who have been fired and those who are about to be.

But there was one caddie switch that caught GTC’s eye on Thursday at the PGA Championship. 2010 PGA champion Martin Kaymer set out at Kiawah with Craig Connelly on the bag.

Connelly caddied for the German when he won at Whistling Straits in ’10 but the two split last season and Kaymer hired Christian Donald, brother of world No. 1 Luke Donald, to be his looper.

Kaymer, however, decided it was time for a change and reunited with Connelly, who had been caddying for Paul Casey, last week at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

The move hasn’t exactly produced instant results. Kaymer tied for 29th at Firestone and struggled to an opening 79 at the PGA.
