Aaitui

Hendricks, 25, was on the roster for just over a month. His roster spot was taken by Jimmy Kennedy, who’s been activated from the reserve/suspended list.

Undrafted out of UNLV in 2011, Aaitui had a strong preseason, registering four tackles and a sack. He spent camp with new Jets OC Tony Sparano in Miami last season. Aaitui will provide depth behind Sione Pouha and Kenrick Ellis after Gang Green cut Martin Tevaseu.

Aaitui spent last summer with the Dolphins and Jets, and he registered four tackles and a sack during preseason action. He’ll compete for a backup nose tackle spot behind John Jenkins in the Saints’ new 3-4 defense.

Edwards’ torn triceps will require surgery, necessitating a lengthy recovery. He signed a three-year, $8.25 million just days before suffering the injury. The Panthers will revisit that commitment in 2012. Corvey Irvin and Sione Fua currently sit atop the Panthers’ depth chart at defensive tackle. Deljuan Robinson, formerly of the Texans, was signed to take Edwards’ roster spot.
