Cubs acquired RHP Jacob Brigham and a player to be named later or cash considerations from the Rangers for C Geovany Soto and cash considerations.
Brigham, 24, has a 4.40 ERA over parts of six seasons in the minors, averaging 8.2 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9. The Rangers gave him another shot as a starter this season with Double-A Frisco, but he had a 4.21 ERA in 21 starts while allowing 19 home runs in 124 innings. With a plus-fastball and a quality breaking ball, his best shot to make it out is likely out of the bullpen.
