Jacob Brigham signed a one-year contract with the Wei Chuan Dragons of the Chinese Professional Baseball League.
It’s the right-hander’s second time signing with the Dragons, as he spent the first part of the 2021 campaign there before joining the Kiwoom Heroes in the Korean Baseball Organization. The 33-year-old hurler -- who hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since 2015 -- registered a brilliant 1.95 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 80/32 K/BB ratio over 106 1/3 innings between his two stops in 2021.

Rangers purchased the contract of RHP Jacob Brigham from Double-A Frisco.
The move protects him from December’s Rule 5 Draft. Brigham began this season as a starter, but shifted to the bullpen in June and posted a 3.60 ERA and 46/22 K/BB ratio over 40 innings. The 23-year-old right-hander just may have found a home.

Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reports that the Rangers have dealt prospect right-hander Jacob Brigham to the Cubs as part of the Geovany Soto deal.
Brigham is considered a fringe prospect, but Chicago couldn’t have expected much more for Soto after the year he has had. Texas added Brigham to the 40-man roster this winter to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. The former 6th-round pick has posted a 4.28 ERA in 124 innings as a starter for Double-A Frisco this year.

Brigham, 24, has a 4.40 ERA over parts of six seasons in the minors, averaging 8.2 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9. The Rangers gave him another shot as a starter this season with Double-A Frisco, but he had a 4.21 ERA in 21 starts while allowing 19 home runs in 124 innings. With a plus-fastball and a quality breaking ball, his best shot to make it out is likely out of the bullpen.

Tough break for Brigham, who was just reacquired from the Cubs last week. The 24-year-old right-hander compiled a 4.72 ERA while striking out a batter per inning at Double-A in 2012, and there are always organizations willing to gamble on a live arm such as his.
