ESPN Packers reporter Rob Demovsky left WR Jared Abbrederis off his 53-man roster projection.
The Packers are deep at receiver, meaning someone with talent will end up getting cut. Abbrederis played a big role in the Divisional Round with Davante Adams and Randall Cobb sidelined, but he has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career. Abbrederis likely needs to beat out either Ty Montgomery or rookie Trevor Davis to earn a roster spot.
  • FA Wide Receiver #10
Packers coach Mike McCarthy said WR Jared Abbrederis had “his best offseason.”
“I think his route running is exemplary for a young guy,” McCarthy continued. “Just all the specifics and details and techniques of route running, I think he’s exceptional.” Abbrederis played sparingly during the regular season, but he was thrust into a bigger role when injuries struck in the playoffs, recording four catches for 55 yards in the Divisional Round. While he is a smooth route runner, he has struggled to stay healthy and has a glut of talented receivers ahead of him on the depth chart. Abbrederis will need a strong camp to hold his roster spot.
  • FA Wide Receiver #10
Jared Abbrederis is listed with the second-team offense on the Packers’ initial depth chart.
He’s ahead of both Ty Montgomery and Jeff Janis. It’s still only the opening days of camp, but it bodes well for Abbrederis’ 53-man roster odds.
  • FA Wide Receiver #10
Packers WR Jared Abbrederis caught 3-of-3 targets for 25 yards and a touchdown in Friday night’s third preseason game.
Abbrederis played behind Davante Adams, but Adams dropped a deep ball from Joe Callahan while Abbrederis made the most of his opportunities. The drawback with Abbrederis is that he is more of an inside-the-numbers receiver while Adams is theoretically a perimeter presence. The Packers’ offense will be more limited if Abbrederis is the No. 3 receiver. It may still be the best option, however, because Abbrederis is more reliable and efficient.
  • FA Wide Receiver #10
Packers.com’s Wes Hodkiewicz said it is not “out of the realm of possibilities” for Green Bay to keep seven receivers on the final roster.
Green Bay only kept five receivers last season, but they also kept three quarterbacks and two fullbacks. With those spots expected to be trimmed to two and one respectively, the Packers will have some room to keep an extra receiver or two. Green Bay deciding to keep a few extra bodies at receiver would be great news for Jared Abbrederis, Ty Montgomery, and fifth-round rookie Trevor Davis.
  • FA Wide Receiver #10
ESPN Packers reporter Rob Demovsky predicts third-year WR Jared Abbrederis will be Green Bay’s “breakout” player this season.
Abbrederis is listed as Randall Cobb’s direct backup on the Packers’ latest unofficial depth chart, suggesting he’s no deeper than the No. 4 receiver. According to Demovsky, Abbrederis has enjoyed a “strong showing” at training camp and “continues to move up the depth chart.” With Jeff Janis’ abysmal camp and broken hand, Abbrederis is competing with Davante Adams for No. 3 duties. Abbrederis is a smooth route runner who can play both inside and outside.
  • FA Wide Receiver #10
Packers waived WR Jared Abbrederis with an injury settlement.
Abbrederis was sent to I.R. three days ago with a thigh issue. Always just south of fantasy value, Abbrederis will hunt for work as a special teamer. His Dynasty days are through.
  • FA Wide Receiver #10
Packers placed WR Jared Abbrederis on injured reserve with a bruised thigh.
Always on the fringes of relevance in Dynasty leagues, Abbrederis had one catch in five games this season. It sounds like he’ll eventually be cut loose with an injury settlement. It’s probably never going to happen for Abbrederis in fantasy.
  • FA Wide Receiver #10
Lions signed WR Jared Abbrederis, formerly of the Packers.
Abbrederis announced the signing on his Twitter account. It’s likely a reserve/future deal that will allow Abbrederis to attend all Lions offseason training and give him a shot to make the 53 if he holds onto a roster spot into August.
  • FA Wide Receiver #10
Lions coach Jim Caldwell has been impressed with Jared Abbrederis at OTAs.
“Really good route runner, very good in terms of his ability to find open areas,” Caldwell said. “You complement all those things he can do from an offensive standpoint with his ability to play special teams. He’s really doing well, so he’s just got to keep progressing.” Abbrederis is the early favorite for Detroit’s No. 4 receiver job. He’s competing with Jace Billingsley, Keshawn Martin, T.J. Jones and UDFA Noel Thomas.
