Adduci had been designated for assignment but has cleared waivers and will remain in the organization.

Adduci went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts during his week-long stay with the Cubs. The 34-year-old is a now a career .232/.283/.336 hitter in 431 total plate appearances at the major league level.

Bryant was pulled from Sunday’s series finale against the Reds after colliding with teammate Jason Heyward in the outfield. He’s still being evaluated for a possible head or neck injury, and there is no exact diagnosis yet. Jim Adduci is in right field and David Bote will play third base Monday in Houston.

Heyward banged his hip in a collision with Kris Bryant on Sunday. It doesn’t sound like anything overly serious -- Bryant really took the brunt of that collision. Jim Adduci will start in right field and bat fifth on Monday against Astros right-hander Gerrit Cole.

Adduci will give the Cubs a little extra position-player depth for this week’s interleague series in Houston. The 34-year-old owns a career .235/.286/.340 batting line in 426 major league plate appearances.

Adduci made a career-high 185 plate appearances with the Tigers in 2018 but batted just .267/.290/.386. He’ll be buried on the Cubs’ organizational depth chart, likely opening the 2019 season at Triple-A Iowa.

Adduci was pushed off the Tigers’ 40-man roster on Wednesday night after batting just .267/.290/.386 over 185 major league plate appearances in 2018. The 33-year-old could be brought back on a minor league deal for 2019.

Adduci slashed .267/.290/.386 in 185 plate appearances this year with Detroit, making 43 starts at first base after Miguel Cabrera went down with a season-ending biceps injury in June. The 33-year-old is a candidate to be brought back on a minor league contract for the 2019 campaign.

Adduci hammered an opposite-field three-run blast, his third of the year, off Indians starter Shane Bieber to put the Tigers ahead in the fifth inning. It was his first long ball since August 1. The 33-year-old veteran first baseman has recorded a .280/.301/.420 triple-slash line with 17 runs scored, three homers, 20 RBI and one steal in 158 major-league plate appearances this year. He can be safely ignored in all fantasy formats.

He’ll also get a spring training invite. Adduci, 27, batted .298/.371/.419 with seven home runs, 44 RBI, 18 stolen bases and a .789 OPS in 126 games between Double- and Triple-A in the Cubs’ organization this season. He’s unlikely to crack the Opening Day roster.
