Jose Sermo has expressed interest in playing professionally in Asia during the 2022 season.
With most rosters already filled in the Korea Baseball Organization and in Nippon Professional Baseball, the most likely destination would be Taiwan’s Chinese Professional Baseball League. The 30-year-old was a dominant offensive force for the Sioux City Explorers in the independent American Association in 2021, slashing .298/.455/.660 with 29 homers, 86 RBI, 18 stolen bases and a 94/88 K/BB ratio in 407 plate appearances across 91 games.

Red Sox SS prospect Jose Sermo blasted three homers Tuesday in a win for High-A Salem.
He drove in four runs as the Red Sox edged Potomac 10-7. It was the first three-homer game by a Salem hitter since 2006. Sermo had homered only twice in 81 at-bats this season prior to Tuesday’s explosion. The 25-year-old entered Tuesday’s game in a 3-for-30 rut that saw his average dip from .271 to .200. Sermo spent all of last season in independent ball with the Gary SouthShore RailCats and the Frontier Greys.
