The Bucs are expected to go with Kyle Brindza as their kicker to open the season.
Acquired from Detroit in the Tim Wright trade earlier this week, Brindza connected on field goals from 57 and 55 yards in the final preseason game. That performance prompted to the Bucs to cut ties with Connor Barth, and Tampa Bay could jettison Patrick Murray (knee) as well.
  • FA Tight End #81
Lions acquired TE Tim Wright from the Buccaneers in exchange for K Kyle Brindza.
Wright’s odyssey continues. After a breakout rookie campaign in Tampa Bay, Wright was acquired by the Patriots in a similarly timed trade last offseason. He struggled to make a consistent impact in New England and was waived in June. The Bucs claimed Wright off waivers but have now traded him for the second time in as many years. In Detroit, Wright will compete with Joseph Fauria for snaps behind Eric Ebron and Brandon Pettigrew.

Lovie Smith said Kyle Brindza will remain the Bucs’ kicker.
Brindza had a nightmare day against the Texans Week 3, missing three field goals and an extra point in a game the Bucs eventually lost by 10 points. “Kyle is our kicker,” Smith said. “He, like a lot of us, had a disappointing day (Sunday). That hasn’t been the case. You’re going to have off days, and this was an off day.” Brindza will keep his job at least another week, but after missing four of his first nine attempts of the season, he is on the shortest of leashes.

Jets signed K Kyle Brindza to a reserve/future contract.

    Jets waived K Kyle Brindza.
Brindza made it 13 days with the Jets after signing a reserve/future contract. His undoing was a torn Achilles’ tendon suffered during a workout last week. It’s been a cruel NFL career thus far for Brindza, who was waived by the Bucs in early October after proving addicted to missed extra points. Brindza is a 2015 UDFA out of Notre Dame.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Bucs will consider a kicker change this week.
Kyle Brindza missed a 29-yard field goal, a 43-yard field goal and an extra point Week 4 against the Panthers. Brindza has now missed six field goals and two extra points in the last three weeks. His days in Tampa Bay are likely finished. Josh Scobee, who was released by the Steelers on Saturday, could be an option.
