Phillies acquired RHP Kyle Simon and C Gabriel Lino from the Orioles for DH Jim Thome.
Simon was selected in the fourth round of the 2011 Amateur Draft and has registered a decent 3.96 ERA in 72-plus innings this season at the Single-A level. But the 21-year-old right-hander doesn’t have much upside.

Kyle Simon has been suspended 50 games following a second positive test for a drug of abuse.
Simon was traded from the Orioles to the Phillies in the Jim Thome trade back in June 2012 and then selected by the Rockies on the minor league side of this winter’s Rule 5 Draft. Colorado has since released him. The 24-year-old right-hander posted a pedestrian 3.93 ERA, 1.295 WHIP, and 41/21 K/BB ratio in 75 2/3 innings last season between Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
