Logan Verrett has elected free agency.
The 31-year-old right-hander hasn’t appeared in a big league game since the 2017 season, but he has been keeping the dream alive in the minor leagues. He spent the 2022 campaign in the Nationals organization where he registered a solid 3.80 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 102/28 K/BB ratio across 125 2/3 innings in 24 appearances (21 starts) at Triple-A Rochester. He’ll search for a minor league deal and big league camp invite elsewhere.

Nationals signed RHP Logan Verrett to a minor league contract.
Verrett last appeared in the majors back in 2017 with the Orioles. The 31-year-old righty holds a serviceable 4.62 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 114/61 K/BB ratio a cross 150 innings (57 appearances, 16 starts) at the major-league level. He posted a 4.74 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 88/16 K/BB ratio across 114 innings (19 starts) for Triple-A Tacoma in the Mariners’ system last year. He’ll bolster the Nationals organizational starting pitching depth this upcoming season.

Logan Verrett yielded two runs over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Marlins on Friday.
Verrett held the Marlins scoreless until he gave up a game-tying two-run homer to Christian Yelich in the sixth. He fanned three and walked one in the no-decision and now holds a 4.14 ERA and 44/29 K/BB ratio over 67 1/3 innings this season. Zack Wheeler (elbow) hasn’t been cleared for rehab games yet, so Verrett should continue to get chances in New York’s rotation. There’s just not much fantasy upside here.

Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News hears from three Mets sources that Steven Matz has a bone spur in his throwing elbow.
Matz has been dealing with discomfort in the elbow in his recent starts and is no longer a sure thing to make take his next scheduled turn Wednesday against the Nationals. Still, rest isn’t expected to make much of a difference here. If he wants to delay surgery, he might have to pitch through the discomfort for the rest of the season. Logan Verrett and Sean Gilmartin are the candidates to start Wednesday if the Mets want to go in a different direction.
  • MLB Starting Pitcher #41
Logan Verrett is likely to start in place of Matt Harvey (shoulder) this Saturday versus the Nationals.
Harvey landed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with discomfort in his right shoulder. There’s some fear that he has thoracic outlet syndrome, which would require an extended absence and possibly even season-ending surgery. Verrett, 26, holds a 4.01 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and 34/22 K/BB ratio in 49 1/3 innings (five starts, 18 relief appearances) this season for New York. He’s not a great fantasy streaming option.

The Mets confirmed Logan Verrett will start Saturday’s game against the Nationals.
He’s been called on to replace Matt Harvey, who was placed on the disabled list with symptoms consistent with thoracic outlet syndrome. Verrett has seen mixed results as a starter this year, going 1-3 with a 5.32 ERA in five outings. With Harvey sidelined and Zack Wheeler’s recovery from Tommy John surgery stalled, Verrett could become a fixture in the Mets’ starting rotation.
  • MLB Starting Pitcher #41
Logan Verrett gave up two runs in five innings, walking four and fanning one against the Nationals on Wednesday evening.
Verrett is a reliever who was tasked with making a spot start so the Mets could give Steven Matz an extra day of rest due to elbow trouble. Verrett allowed only four hits, one of them being a solo homer by former Met Daniel Murphy. He has a 4.08 ERA with a scary 32/22 K/BB in 46 1/3 innings. He is likely not a starter long term but could get more starts in the near term as the Mets nurse the tender elbows of Matz and Noah Syndergaard.

Logan Verrett will make a spot start for the Mets on Wednesday against the Nationals in Washington.
He’s taking the place of Steven Matz who is being pushed back a day to give his elbow some rest. While he’s worth a look as a streaming option, he draws a difficult matchup against Max Scherzer.

Logan Verrett will make a spot start for the Mets on Saturday in Milwaukee.
Tuesday’s doubleheader at PNC Park has caused a small shake-up in the Mets’ rotation and Verrett is being called on to fill the gap. The right-hander owns a 3.22 ERA and 26/14 K/BB ratio in 36 1 /3 innings (three starts, 15 relief appearances) this season for New York. There are worse fantasy streaming options.

Logan Verrett will make a spot-start for the Mets later this week.
It will either by on Friday or Saturday against the Brewers, with Friday the most likely scenario. The Mets need another starter this week because of Tuesday’s doubleheader. Verrett owns a 3.41 ERA and 24/13 K/BB ratio in 34 1/3 innings over three starts and 14 relief appearances this season. He’s a decent matchup play in deeper fantasy formats.
