Lions signed North Carolina DE Malik Carney.
Carney (6’2/251) made 30 career starts on the Tar Heels’ defensive line, tallying 33 TFLs with 17.5 sacks and nine forced fumbles despite missing four games in 2018 due to a suspension related to a shoe-selling scandal. A complete college defensive end who also played the run stoutly, Carney’s NFL transition became more questionable when he managed 20th-percentile SPARQ results in Indy. A solid if unspectacular edge prospect, Carney projects as special teams help with some chance to develop into a serviceable nickel rusher.
