Jason Isringhausen won’t be available for several days due to a herniated disc in his back.
This comes at an interesting time for the Mets’ bullpen, as Bobby Parnell has blown two out of his last three save opportunities. If he continues to struggle, Manny Acosta could become a legitimate threat for ninth-inning duties. Isringhausen, 39, has a 4.05 ERA, seven saves and 44/24 K/BB over 46 2/3 innings this season. He notched his 300th career save last month. As of now, he plans to pitch in 2012.

Jason Isringhausen (back) said Tuesday that he is not close to returning.
Isringhausen received an injection Monday to attempt to alleviate right leg numbness associated with a herniated disc in his lower back. He was able to play catch Tuesday, but his status remains in a state of limbo at the moment. Bobby Parnell and Manny Acosta should continue to get most of the late-inning work in the interim.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Monday that Miguel Batista will get save chances on the days that Frank Francisco and Jon Rauch are unavailable.
One could argue that Ramon Ramirez, Bobby Parnell and Manny Acosta are all superior alternatives, but Collins apparently prefers Batista’s experience. Since he only figures to get a chance here or there, this situation doesn’t figure to be of much interest to anyone outside of NL-only leagues.

The Mets and RHP Manny Acosta avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $875,000 contract.
Acosta was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter. The 30-year-old right-hander pitched well in a late-game role for the Mets last season, posting a 3.45 ERA and 46/15 K/BB ratio over 47 innings. He should have a similar role in 2012.
  • INT Relief Pitcher
Mets sent RHP Manny Acosta outright to Triple-A Buffalo.
As expected, Acosta cleared waivers. The 31-year-old right-hander was a solid contributor for the Mets’ bullpen from 2010-2011, but he has a miserable 11.86 ERA and 23/15 K/BB ratio over 22 innings this season. We’ll probably see him again later this summer.
  • INT Relief Pitcher
Mets manager Terry Collins suggested Manny Acosta’s roster spot could be in jeopardy.
Acosta has a 10.53 ERA in 17 appearances this season, and the Mets plan to restore their bench to five position players before Monday’s game in Pittsburgh. Jeremy Hefner, who was promoted for Jordany Valdespin on Saturday, could ultimately replace him on the active roster.

The Mets plan to purchase the contract of right-hander Manny Acosta from Triple-A Buffalo prior to Tuesday’s game.
Acosta was designated for assignment by the Mets in late May after posting a miserable 11.86 ERA and 23/15 K/BB ratio over 22 innings. However, he stuck around after clearing waivers and compiled a 2.25 ERA and 25/4 K/BB ratio over 28 innings during his time with the Bisons. He’ll take the roster spot of Pedro Beato, who was optioned to the minors after Monday’s game. Matt Harvey still needs to be added to the roster, so Lucas Duda may end up being demoted after all.

Mets purchased the contract of RHP Manny Acosta from Triple-A Buffalo.
Acosta was booted off the 40-man roster in late May, but he’s back up with the big club after posting a 2.25 ERA and 25/4 K/BB ratio over 28 innings at the Triple-A level. The Mets have yet to announce a corresponding roster move, but outfielder Lucas Duda could be hours away from a demotion.

Mets designated RHP Manny Acosta for assignment.
As expected, Acosta will get the boot to make room for Omar Quintanilla on the active roster. The 31-year-old right-hander was a solid contributor for the Mets’ bullpen from 2010-2011, but he has a miserable 11.86 ERA and 23/15 K/BB ratio over 22 innings this season.
  • INT Relief Pitcher
According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Manny Acosta will be designated for assignment to make room for Chris Schwinden on the active roster.
As expected. Acosta gave up three runs on four hits Monday against the Phillies and owns an ugly 11.86 ERA and 23/15 K/BB ratio over 22 innings this season. The move should be made official Tuesday.
