    Lions released CB Marcus Cooper.
He’s been replaced by former UConn standout Jamar Summers. Cooper has been a football nomad since arriving as a seventh-round pick in 2013, spending time with five organizations including the 49ers, Chiefs, Cardinals, Bears and Lions. The former Rutgers Scarlet Knight recorded two tackles and two forced fumbles over five games between Chicago and Detroit last season.
  • FA Defensive Back #31
Lions re-signed CB Marcus Cooper to a one-year contract.
Detroit claimed Cooper off waivers from the Bears at the end of the year, allowing the veteran to log 36 snaps from Week 14 on. He’ll compete for nickel duties in camp with Mike Ford, Teez Tabor, and Jamal Agnew.
  • FA Defensive Back #31
    Bears waived CB Marcus Cooper.
The Bears needed to clear a roster spot for Tyler Bray, who is likely to back up Chase Daniel Thursday against Detroit. Cooper hasn’t played since seeing three snaps in Week 1. He’ll look to catch on elsewhere as veteran depth.
  • FA Defensive Back #31
Bears declared CB Marcus Cooper, S DeAndre Houston-Carson, OLB Isaiah Irving, OLB Kylie Fitts, OT Rashaad Coward, WR Javon Wims and DT Nick Williams inactive for Sunday’s Week 3 game versus the Cardinals.
The Bears enter Week 3 healthy with no significant injuries.
  • FA Defensive Back #31
49ers agreed to terms with No. 252 overall pick CB Marcus Cooper on a four-year contract.
The third to last pick of the draft, Cooper is facing long odds of cracking the 49ers’ 53-man roster. He should be stashed on the practice squad where he’ll be developed as a potential special teamer.
  • FA Defensive Back #31
49ers selected Rutgers CB Marcus Cooper with the No. 252 overall pick.
Cooper did not have a ton of starting experience, but he becomes the seventh Rutgers player to be selected. He likely put forward a nice workout for team scouts and caught their attention. He is nothing more than depth.
  • FA Defensive Back #31
Chiefs claimed CB Marcus Cooper off waivers from the 49ers.
Cooper was San Francisco’s seventh-round pick this past April. He’ll slot in as depth behind Brandon Flowers, Dunta Robinson, and Sean Smith at corner.
  • FA Defensive Back #31
The Chiefs benched rookie LCB Marcus Cooper for Week 16 against the Colts.
Following a very impressive start to his seventh-round rookie year, Cooper had struggled mightily of late, likely losing confidence. The Chiefs went with Dunta Robinson at slot/nickel back, and Brandon Flowers kicking over to left corner. Coach Andy Reid said Monday the Chiefs will still give Cooper an opportunity to “work his way back in,” likely by playing in Week 17 while other players rest.
  • FA Defensive Back #31
Cardinals acquired CB Marcus Cooper from the Chiefs in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2018.
Cooper made some noise as a seventh-round rookie in 2013, but his play steadily fell off. He’ll provide some depth behind the shaky duo of Justin Bethel and Brandon Williams opposite Patrick Peterson. Cooper also spent some time at safety this summer. He will likely be tried as a press corner in Arizona.
  • FA Defensive Back #31
Marcus Cooper has been getting safety reps at OTAs.
Cooper is moving to safety full time after spending his first three years at corner. He gives the Chiefs another option behind starters Eric Berry and Ron Parker. Added versatility will improve Cooper’s chances of making the 53.
